Help prevent the spread of influenza in your chapter
K-State and Greek Affairs is prepared to help your chapter respond to sick members, but more importantly, we want to help you be aware of how your chapter can stay healthy. Here's what you should know:
H1N1 flu is spread through respiratory droplets that are coughed or sneezed into the air. It may also be spread by virus that remains on hands after coughing or sneezing that gets spread to others through common use items such as phones, doorknobs, desks and keyboards.
If you or one of your chapter sisters are sick, have them stay home to avoid spreading illness. Encourage them not to go to class or chapter functions and certianly do not require their attendance.
All members should use simple caution during the flu season: cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue and properly dispose of used tissues. Clean hands after using tissues with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap and warm water. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Stay healthy by eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water and getting adequate rest and exercise.
Should members in your chapter become ill, please contact the Greek Affairs office immediately.
All Greek students received the and annual email encouraging safety. Included this semester was special information about influenza and other timely cautions. Read the newsletter now. | |
Out & Greek Conference for LGBT & Ally Fraternity & Sorority Members Kansas State University is the location for the second annual Leadership Conference.
The conference, which will take place November 19-22 at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, is the only conference of its kind for LGBT and ally fraternity and sorority members nationally. Registration now open along with call for workshop presenters online athttp://www.lambda10.org/outandgreek.
Echoing the mission of Campus Pride's Lambda 10 educational initiative, the Out and Greek Conference aims to bring together lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) and ally members of fraternities and sororities in an effort to foster dialogue and create safer, more LGBT-friendly learning environments at colleges and universities.
"Fraternities and sororities were once considered a primary source of homophobia on college campuses," said conference chair Chelsey Fritch who is also a member of Gamma Rho Lambda, one of the nations queer-inclusive sororities. "But now more than ever LGBT members of the Greek system are being open and honest about who we are. This conference hopes to provide an opportunity to enhance that dialogue, share tools and create further strategies for change."
The Out and Greek Conference will also provide an opportunity for students and professional staff from across the country to lead and present workshops on best practices from their campus fraternity and sorority community. Further details, a schedule of events as well as information becoming a workshop presenter, may be found by visiting http://www.lambda10.org/outandgreek.
According to Campus Pride, Kansas State University was chosen to host the conference due to the fact that it has both a men's fraternity and a women's sorority for LGBT members - Delta Lambda Phi and Gamma Rho Lambda. Along with Fritch as the chair, members of both organizations are part of the planning team. "K-State is proud to host the second annual conference. We have created something special within Greek Life on our campus and we hope to share it with others across the country," Fritch said. National sponsors currently include Campuspeak, Beck & Company, Tyvola Design and the Association of Fraternity Advisors.
For more information about the conference and how to become a sponsor, please visit www.lambda10.org/outandgreek, email Campus Pride at info@campuspride.org or call 704-277-6710.

Up Til Dawn Please read the following message from Lee Van Loenen, Director of Up Til Dawn.
My name is Lee Van Loenen and I am the Director of the Up Til Dawn student group here at Kansas State University. I'm hope that you are aware of what we do on campus, but right now we need your help.
I have attached below the pdf flyer explaining one way UTD is trying to raise funds this year. It is a text messaging coupon system (that you can use at many businesses and restaurants). The best part is that you are NOT put on any listservs or spam email lists. What we want to do is get as many people to sign up because UTD/St. Jude will get a donation for each person that registers.
If you have questions about what we do or how to register, contact me as soon as you can.
Please check the flyer out, forward it to your fraternity and sorority brothers and sisters, and help us fight childhood cancer!
