Become a University Experience Instructor
Dr. Judy Lynch, Director of the Academic Assistance Center, is looking for students who are interested in completing a practicum as an instructor for a section of the University Experience course during the Fall 2009 semester. Teaching this course would provide a great opportunity to both (a) develop teaching skills, and gain college level teaching experience, and (b) learn to facilitate students' development of skills necessary for success in college, such as communication, critical thinking, academic and career planning, goal setting, and navigating other issues relevant to college life. If you are interested in this opportunity, then contact Dr. Lynch asap to learn more: judylync@ksu.edu, 532-6492, 101 Holton Hall. |
Brandon Cutler names Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) volunteer of the month!
Brandon Cutler, Assistant Director for Greek Affairs at Kansas State University, serves AFA as a member of the Annual Meeting Planning Team's Educational Programs Committee. His nominator, Jennifer Leung, states "Brandon developed and distributed a survey to seasoned professionals in the Association so that, as a committee, we could better understand the programming needs of the dedicated, seasoned professionals in the field. The results of this survey will be used this year, (and for years to come in the future, I'm sure) to help provide outstanding professional development for seasoned members of the Association. Brandon is an outstanding member of our committee." Congratulations Brandon! |
Molly Hamm, Delta Delta Delta, selected as a recipient of the Frank Newman Award for Outstanding Civic Leadership
Molly Hamm, Delta Delta Delta, has been selected as one of the two recipients of this year's Frank Newman Award for Outstanding Civic Leadership by the national office of Campus Compact. This is an enormous honor and the first time Kansas has had a winner of this prestigious award. Ms. Hamm is studying education and non-profit leadership. She has been actively involved in civic engagement throughout her studies, believing that being in college "required much more than membership - it required a conscious and active effort to always improve anything that you touched." Among her many accomplishments to-date, she founded Greeks Going Green, a nonprofit that educates fraternities and sororities on minimizing their environmental impact. Since its inception in 2008, Greeks Going Green has enlisted 14 university hosts around the country. Campus Compact and the Newman family established the Frank Newman Leadership Award in honor of Campus Compact co-founder Frank Newman, a scholar who exemplified a life of public service and educational leadership. The award is designed to support and recognize students with financial need who have demonstrated civic leadership through service and scholastic achievement.
Part of the award is the implementation of a mentoring program with her college president, something that incoming K-State President Kirk Schulz has been highly supportive of. He has provided an opportunity for Molly to gain valuable civic leadership skills during an exciting time at the university. Congratulations to Molly and Kansas State and thank you for demonstrating to all of us - students, faculty, and me - how to find time to be an active participant in our communities.

Lisa Erbe, Delta Delta Delta, helps others through the University Life Cafe
Thanks to Delta Delta's Lisa Erbe's award worthy performance as "Suzy," K-State will be able to help hundreds if not thousands of students in succeeding as a student at K-State. Super K-Stater actress Ms. Erbe plays the role of "Suzy," a student who dispenses good scholastic advice as well as comical situations in the upcoming online video series entitled "Suzy's Strategies," presented by the University Life Café of Counseling Services. Ms. Erbe selflessly contributed about 40 hours of her time in the creation of the video series. Additionally Ms. Erbe was able to get several of her Delta Delta Delta sorority sisters to make guest appearances in the video series for added impact and university wide benefit. The 12 episode video series was written and produced by the Office of Mediated Education at KSU and will be released online through the www.universitylifecafe.org website in early fall, 2009. | |
