Fraternity Recruitment Update

ICS System updates are complete, and all members and signed new members should be on your chapter's roster.  The updates to ICS will not effect chapter usage in any way.  Please contact Brandon Cutler ([email protected]) if you have signed new members that do not show up on your roster, or if you have other ICS related questions.

Andy Patton, IFC Director of Recruitment, will be holding weekly hours in the Greek Affairs office.  Please contact Andy at [email protected] with any questions.  You can also see Andy during orientation browsing sessions at the Greek Affairs display.

Orientation and Enrollment
K-State will host new students and their families all through the month of June for Orientation and Enrollment, and Greek Affairs will be a part of it all.  Every morning of Orientation and Enrollment Greek Affairs staff members will host 3 Greek Life sessions for parents and family members of new students.  In the afternoon, new students will be able to engage with the fraternity recruitment leaders at the browsing session.  In addition, the Greek community will be highlighted throughout Wildcat Warm-up to ensure new students are aware of all the awesome things happening in our community and how to be a part!

Need Help?  It appears as if we have several chapters performing below their chapter goals and expectations.  If your chapter is struggling with recruitment and needs a little help, please let us know.  We can work together to develop strategies and a plan to improve chapter recruitment efforts.  It is not too late to get things moving in the right direction.  You may contact Brandon Cutler at [email protected] or 515.290.9110, or Andy Patton at [email protected]

Summer Orientation Browsing sessions:  June 11-13, 16-20, and 23-27.  The sessions start at Noon and go to 3:30 PM and are held on the first floor of the K-State Union.  Chapters must be present the entire time each day of orientation to reserve a spot.  If a chapter does not attend each session for the entire time period, they will not be allowed to participate in the future.  Also, you will need to be set up and ready to go at Noon so plan on arriving at 11:30 am each day.  Tables are first come first serve.

Chapter that have RSVP'd:  Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Nu, Phi Kappa Theta, Sigma Chi, Phi Gamma Delta, Delta Sigma Phi, and Tau Kappa Epsilon.

* Recruitment Tip *
Commit as much time as you, and your members, can to Orientation and Enrollment Activities.  Here are a few things you can do to prepare for success:
1) Attend all the afternoon browsing sessions
2) Dress appropriately
3) Clean your chapter facility (if you have one) for tours
4) Take recruits and their parents out for lunch/dinner - Contact recruits prior to Orientation and schedule a time and place to meet with them.
5) Know your facts about your chapter (cost, meal plans, move-in, study hours, housing contracts, etc.)
6) Be prepared to sell your chapter to parents (arrange for parents to speak with your alumni or advisor), and practice answering difficult questions.
7) Be outgoing during browsing sessions-Don't wait for them to come to you
9) The harder you work, the better you'll do!
Preliminary Grade Reports  Chapters will receive spring 2009 preliminary grade reports no later than Monday June 8th.  Grade reports will be sent to the chapter president, chapter advisor, and scholarship chair electronically via e-mail.  The grade report will be attached to the e-mail and password protected to ensure academic records remain private.  This advancement will reduce the cost of paper and postage while enhancing our ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders.
Be Magazine Set To Be Mailed To All Incoming Students
The Be magazine, the Greek Community recruitment publication, is being printed, and will be mailed to all incoming K-State students by the end of the week.  With orientation around the corner, the magazine will be reaching mailboxes and increasing interest at a very good time for community recruitment efforts.

Practicum Opportunity  Dr. Judy Lynch, Director of the Academic Assistance Center, is looking for students who are interested in completing a practicum as an instructor for a section of the University Experience course during the Fall 2009 semester.

Teaching this course would provide a great opportunity to both (a) develop teaching skills, and gain college level teaching experience, and (b) learn to facilitate students development of skills necessary for success in college, such as communication, critical thinking, academic and career planning, goal setting, and navigating other issues relevant to college life.

If you are interested in this opportunity, then contact Dr. Lynch asap to learn more: [email protected], 532-6492, 101 Holton Hall.
