One step closer: Extension update
The Extension Committee is excite to announce five excellent sororities have submitted materials to express tier interest in becoming K-State's newest sorority.  The Extension Committee was thrilled to see a large application pool with such outstanding proposals and applications!  On March 10, the committee first reviewed the applications.  All applications are in the Greek Affairs office available for review by any interested party.

The next meeting of the Extension Committee will be held  on Tuesday, March 24.  At this time, the committee will select the groups they wish to invite to campus for a formal presentation.

Remember, you may stay connected to the work of the Extension Committee via the Greek Affairs website at http://www.k-state.edu/greek/extension.htm.
Greek Affairs seeking nominations: 2009 Greek Awards, Contribution Awards
The K-State Greek Affairs office is now accepting nominations for the Contribution Awards (Individual Awards), to be offered at the annual Greek Awards ceremony.  Contributions Awards are offered to individuals for the positive contributions to their self, their chapter, the Greek community and the Manhattan community.  All nominations are to be submitted on the behalf of a chapter by a lead coordinator.  Nominations must be submitted with the brief nominations form attached.  The Greek Affairs staff encourages nomination materials to be creative in their development.  Suggestions for the format of nomination include, but are certainly not limited to letter(s) of recommendation, video montages (youtube clips), CD/electronic presentations, PowerPoint slide shows, product examples (newsletters, articles, photos, etc.), presentation boards.

Successful nominees should have positively contributed to fraternity/sorority members' attainment of the K-State fraternity and sorority values: accountability, diversity, balance, growth, self-actualization, contribution, integrity, knowledge, creativity, relationships, and teamship.

All nominations should be submitted in the Greek Affairs office no later than noon April 6, 2009.

The 2009 Greek Awards ceremony will be hosted jointly by the Greek Affairs staff, and Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils on Thursday, April 16.

Greek Affairs office gets a spring cleaning.
If you frequent the Greek Affairs office, you might just not recognize the office the next time you stop in.  While you were away on spring break, the Greek Affairs staff got busy on a deep cleaning and reorganization of the office!  The large (some may say too large) conference table has be substituted for small modular tables, the chapter mailboxes have moved closer to the door and out of the corner, the student work space has been cleaned and rewired, and that's just the start of the list!

Stop by and visit!  We'd love to show off the space!
Greek LEADS gets excellent feedback
Thank you to all who responded to the Greek LEADS survey!  The Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils have received excellent feedback and will put it to use as they plan for the next Greek LEADS.  Look for a date in the coming weeks for the Greek LEADS, Fall 2009!

How are you doing? Time for a mid-semester check-in
Chapter president, you are now over a quarter of the way into your office...can you belive it? Over the coming weeks, Shawn will be calling to check-in and see how all is going.  To make it most convenient for you, if there is a good time for him to call (or if you'd like to meet face to face) please call the Greek Affairs office to schedule an appointment.  The check-in should take no longer than 15 minutes.

Chapter presidents always say "it was over before I knew it."  What legacy are you leaving?
Panhellenic Board of Directors encourages safe and healthy Derby Days
On March 11 all chapter presidents should have received a letter sharing about a recent meeting the Panhellenic Council Board of Directors had with the leadership of Sigma Chi's philanthropy Derby Days.  The Panhellenic Council Board was excited to see the Derby Days leadership planning a safe and healthy philanthropy.  All participating chapters should know Sigma Chi leadership has pledged to ensuring all Derby Days activities and activities which may be associated with Derby Days are alcohol free and to do their part in ensuring competition is health in spirit and not damaging to interchapter relations.  The Panhellenic Council Board encourages any chapter participating to cease participation should they notice any unreasonable threat to risk management, just as they would expect of chapters at any event.

Enjoy Derby Days!

Recruitment Information
Reminders from the Directors of Recruitment
A few reminders from your Panhellenic Directors of Recruitment:

According to the Code of Ethics for Membership Recruitment, recruitment activities may begin noon, fours days prior to the start of Formal Membership Recruitment thus it is most ethical for a chapter to begin work week on Thursday, August 13 but not prior. The Recruitment Guide send-off and the community-wide ethical recruitment workshop will be held on Friday, August 14 at noon.

The recruitment schedule was made available for two weeks and after receiving no feedback we are happy to have the draft stand as finalized. Review the 2009 FMR schedule.

Please find a time to schedule an ethical recruitment workshop with your chapter. The directors of recruitment would preferably like to come on a Wednesday night during/after chapter meetings.

Lastly, the directors of recruitment would like to offer the opportunity to schedule a time to meet with recruitment chairs if they have questions/concerns about alternative walk-out plans.

Please don't hesitate to contact Ellen Burke. Director of Recruitment-Logistics, or Katie McKenzie, Director of Recruitment-Recruitment Guides.  If you have any questions!
