Call for Pictures This year, in accordance with our strategic plan, we are updating
the recruitment magazine and postcards. We are gathering photos from each
fraternity that will be useful in portraying what fraternity life is all about
at K-State. If you know of anyone who has some excellent pictures from
recruitment parties, date parties, philanthropies, homecoming, brotherhood
events, etc. Please send them to
rpank@ksu.edu as soon as possible. It's important we have the highest quality
pictures, so please send the original file only. We're hoping to have the
publication ready for Open House, so it's imperative to send these photos as
soon as you can. Please let Reed
Pankratz know if you have any questions.

Spring Break safety tips Regardless of your members' destination this Spring Break, encourage your
sisters to keep the following safety tips in mind:
- Before you leave home, make sure
your room and personal belongings as well as the chapter house facility is
secure. Spring Break provides an easy opportunity for thieves to
break into empty fraternity houses, if not properly secured. Take special
consideration in leaving security lights on, stopping mail delivery or
having a local alumni advisor or association member check on the house
during the week while chapter members are away.
- Where ever you may travel during
the break, remember there is safety in numbers-do things as a group and
use the buddy system when appropriate.
- Make sure that someone at home
has all the information about your trip: hotel room and phone
number, travel plans, contact information for you and your
companions. Plan to check in with someone at home regularly.
- Keep your identification, medical
cards and emergency contact information with you at all times.
- Remember that you are not
immortal. Students are notorious for believing that nothing bad will
happen to them, and they will try anything at least once. Don't throw
caution to the winds but instead exercise extreme care not to place
yourself in physically dangerous situations you would not dare to undergo at
home. In a report on Spring Break from Saint Joseph's University in
Philadelphia, sociologist Dr. Raquel Kennedy Bergen said,
"Unfamiliar locations increase vulnerability. Psychologically, people
may be more inclined to try new behaviors and step outside their 'comfort
zone' when away from home."
Enjoy the opportunity spring break provides for
a sisterhood trip or unique adventure - be it social or service in nature, but
at the same time plan ahead, be safe and be smart. |

Enjoy, safely, the warm weather
The weather is getting warm...this always means the desire to
get out and celebrate the end of cabin fever. Please remind your
members to make good decisions for themselves and for the chapter. Watch out
especially for members on decks, fire escapes, etc. as tehse can be dangerous
locations to enjoy the warm weather. Have fun, but be safe.

HIV
Continues to Spread
Education
Essential
"Often I am asked how many
HIV positive diagnoses we make in our Health Center clinic," says Floyd
Robinson, Director of the University of Houston Health Center. "My
general response is that as long as we have one diagnosis, we are obligated to
do more educating and testing."
According to a recent Center
for Disease Control report, only 40 percent of adults in the United
States have ever been tested for the HIV virus. In early July, 2008 the
CDC reported that far more Americans are being newly infected with the HIV
virus than previously had been reported.
Some are suggesting that the
test be administered as a routine blood test when physical exams are
administered. One reason for this thinking is that it demystifies the stigma of
having to seek out a specific testing site and it also allows those
who never tested to know their status.
It is so essential for everyone
to know their status and to take precaution if they are infected with the HIV
virus to do all that is necessary to prevent further transmission. Untreated,
people develop AIDS which destroys the immune system and leaves them vulnerable
to infections and even puts them at higher risk for various forms of cancer.
Testing is essential. If you
have never been tested, the time to do so is now. Health Centers often
offer both anonymous and confidential testing for the University community.
HIV is still with us. Do your part today, and if
you have never tested, do so. This is one virus which can be stopped. We must
be proactive and get tested.
