Greek LEADS: February 28
Greek Leadership, Education, and Development Sessions (LEADS)are presented to the entire K-State fraternity and sorority community each semester and designed specifically for various chapter leaders.  The intent of Greek LEADS is to offer value information to Greek members while doing so in a manner which is efficient, yet most effective.
 
As announced early this semester, Greek LEADS for spring 2009 will take place on February 28. 
 
Three sets of concurrent sessions will be offered with a variety of chapter leadership topics.  All chapters are expected to have at least member present at all the concurrent sessions (10:00 a.m. - 10:55 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 11:55 a.m., and 1:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.).  There is no expectation at to which officers attend on behalf of the chapter.
 
The feature presentation, will be offered with support from K-State HD, is by Ross Szabo, presenting Mixed Drinks, Mixed Emotions: Alcohol Abuse and Mental Health.  All chapters are expected to have at least 20% of their chapter in attendance at the feature presentation (Noon - 1:00 p.m.). 
 
Chapter President Information
Fraternal Relevance Accreditation, currently being reviewed
Approximately 35 Greek professionals have been identified from across the midwest to serve as relevance judges and score Chapter Proposals for Accreditation as part of the Fraternal Relevance Accreditation program.  For the last week and through the remainder of the month, judges will offer chapter chapter president feedback.  Learn more. 
Open your chapter for special-visit days
Does your chapter want to gain exposure to incoming K-State students?  The following Junior Days, Transfer and Orientation Enrollment Day, and an ACT Workshop Day will have opportunities for attendees to visit fraternities and sororities who agree to be open for tours.

Please respond to Jeanette Grauerholz, Greek Affairs Administrative Specialist,  no later than 5pm Friday, February 27, 2009 indicating for which event(s) you wish to host possible open house visitors by placing "YES" behind the dates you will be open.
 
At this time, the specific time for the tour has not yet been identified by Admissions.  In general, the tours usually occur sometime between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.

HD logo Bring an Award-Winning K-State speaker to your chapter: Dr. Kelly Welch
Dr. Kelly Welch is a Certified Family Life Educator with the National Council on Family Relations.  She teaches in the School of Family Studies and Human Services at Kansas State University, and her teaching and research background includes human development, as well as sexuality, intimate relationships, and marriage and the family.  She has taught over 20,000 students at Kansas State University, as well as from around the world with her Distance Education courses.  She is the author of two popular textbooks that are utilized in the U.S. and abroad, "Family Life Now" and "Sexual Life Now."
 
Dr. Welch is a recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Presidential Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching.  Awards and nominations recognize her distinct, innovative, and energetic teaching style--a style students say puts them 'on the edge of their seats. 
 
Dr Welch's presentations include: Hanging Out, Hooking Up, and Everything in Between (addresses the current trends in hooking up, and dangers associated with it, and how to hook up in safer ways), College Confidential:  Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Suicide:  If It's Not You, It's Probably Your Friend (addresses depression, stress, and suicide), College Candy: The Pharming Culture (Pharming--using prescription drugs prescribed for others, is the latest trend among in-coming college freshmen today), Sexploration? Sexiled?  Sex on College Campuses, Date Rape: Counting on Other People's Sense of Right or Wrong Won't Keep You Safe, Sexual Health:  Keeping Da Boyz Safe, What's "One Too Many?" (drinking safely).

Financial Aid Peer Advisor positions available
The following message comes from Ben Kohl, Assistant Director, Office of Student Financial Assistance.
 

The Office of Student Financial Assistance is wanting to fill four Peer Advisor positions. Peer Advisors are student employees who provide quality customer service to students and families regarding the financial assistance process at K-State. They answer inquiries on the telephone and at the front desk regarding K-State financial assistance information.
 
Applicants must be able to work summers and university breaks.  Federal Work-Study funding is preferred.  Work hours are somewhat flexible within office hours; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Starting wage is $7.00 per hour.
