Cooking For Christmas Gatherings? Don't Forget To Can The Grease.
Reminder: After cooking always remember to pour any grease, oils, fats or food drippings into a metal can, let it cool and then place it in the trash.
To help keep our wastewater system running smooth, avoid pouring grease down the sink or toilet. Grease in sewer pipes can cause blockages, health hazards or harm to our environment. In some cases, the repair and utility maintenance costs can get expensive for you, the homeowner.

Prepare Your Home And Yard For Winter.
Energy Tips To Save Energy and Avoid Utility Problems This Season.
 * Insulate any exposed pipes and faucets. Your local hardware/building supply store should have proper supplies.
* Disconnect and drain outdoor garden hoses.
* Close air vents and repair any cracks closest to water pipes to prevent exposure to freezing air.
* Check for drafts around windows and doors. Re-caulk any peeling or cracking caulk or apply weatherstripping to stop any leaks.
* Call Jackson Energy Authority (if you haven't previously) and have a serviceman check your furnace to make sure it is operating properly. This service is free for our gas and electric customers.
* Check your home's insulation to make sure there are no gaps and make sure there is enough to keep valuable heat inside.
* Replace air filters regularly and test your thermostat to insure accuracy.
* Remove vent covers and clean to help increase warm air flow.
* If your water heater is warm to the touch, add a water heater blanket of insulation, which is economical and easy to install.
* Install a door sweep from the local hardware store to help reduce cold drafts coming in under doors.

Santa's Safety Tips
TREES & DECORATIONS:
* If you are enjoying a "live" tree, be sure to keep it watered regularly so that you can continue to enjoy it.
* Place tree away from fireplaces, radiators and other heat sources. Heated rooms dry trees out rapidly, creating fire hazards.
* When hanging your stockings by the chimney with care, keep them away from flames and heat.
LIGHTS:
* Don't plug too many cords into one outlet and throw away any damaged cords.* When stringing lights end-to-end, read caution labels on the cords to make sure you don't overload the lights.* Never crawl through wet areas with electric equipment and keep holiday lights away from water.* When decorating your yard, use only lights and lighted decorations labeled "for outdoor use."CANDLES:
* Keep holiday candles away from flammable objects and never leave a burning candle unattended.
* Place candles where they cannot be knocked down or blown over.
HOME HEATING:
* All heaters need space. Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from heating equipment.
* Install and maintain CO alarms inside your home to provide early warning of carbon monoxide.
COOKING SAFETY:
* Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling, or broiling food. If you leave the kitchen for even a short period of time, turn off the stove.
* Keep anything that can catch fire away from your stove top.
* Wear short, close-fitting or tightly rolled sleeves when cooking. Loose clothing can dangle onto stove burners.
