from The Cecil Group
One quarter of 2011 has passed, and we couldn't be happier with our accomplishments. We're continuing to bring our expertise on Transit Oriented Development to new projects and new clients, we've completed our smallest building yet and celebrated with our client and a cake replica of the structure (see our project spotlight), and we've welcomed a new staff member to The Cecil Group (meet him below). Read all the details and more below.
Jerald KohrsMeet Jerald, Our New Graphic Designer
Jerald Kohrs joined The Cecil Group this past March. With a Masters in Interior Architecture and a robust portfolio of graphic design projects (not to mention fashion design, furniture design, and art installations) he brings to the firm an array of talents. We recently sat down with Jerald to find out what makes him tick. Here's a glimpse of what he shared with us:
  • Favorite food: cookies
  • Perfect day: kite flying and champagne
  • If he could meet someone living or dead it would be: Dolly Parton
  • Favorite thing about Boston:the overwhelming population of French Bulldogs
  • What inspires his work:discovering beauty and unique qualities in objects that can be easily classified as undistinguished or ordinary

Design review for 40B projects
Friday, April 29 | 10:30 am-12:00 noon | CR

The Massachusetts Housing Partnership (MHP) and the Department of Housing and Community Development commissioned The Cecil Group to develop a handbook for Chapter 40B Project Design Review. The handbook explains how design is considered in the Chapter 40B review process, which subsidizing agencies use to evaluate building and site design of applications for project eligibility. This technical-assistance manual presents the steps of design review and explains an approach to resolution when the proposed design conflicts with the project context. Learn about the design-review regulations and standards, the process that the agencies use to review projects and the handbook.

Register for the conference here and sign up for session number B7 under the housing workshops track.

Funding Available for Small City and Town Planning Projects

Two New England communities will be chosen and each will receive training, technical assistance and up to $100,000 in supporting funds. Click here for more information or to download the RFP.
Bostix Booth
Project Spotlight: ArtsBoston BosTix

Unusual and challengingly small - that was the focus of our most recently completed architecture project. Last year The Cecil Group began a complete overhaul of the design of the ArtsBoston BosTix booth located in Faneuil Hall in Boston. This spring, we attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Operated by ArtsBoston, a non-profit arts service organization with a mission to promote arts and culture in Boston,  the BosTix booths (another is located in Copley Square) serve as a cultural concierge for Boston residents, workers and visitors. The booths are used to sell discount tickets to arts and cultural events with proceeds from the sales returned to over 200 Boston theatre, music, dance and visual arts groups in the City.

The new booth design creates a dynamic presence for ArtsBoston and a renewed vitality with a customized and multi-functional exterior frame providing a lively and engaging threshold to the arts community through a series of digital displays that show theatre posters and upcoming event information.

Constructed by Shawmut Design and Construction and fabricated by Mystic Scenic Studios.
