Remember to Shop Edmond this Holiday Season!
Greetings!

10 Reasons to shop in Edmond
1)    You save money! Yes, Edmond sales tax is 7.75%, less than most surrounding areas.

2)    You support local merchants who contribute to local fundraising and pay property taxes that help fund our outstanding public schools!

3)    You help keep Edmond safe! Sales tax supports our police and fire departments.  If a police officer or fire fighter comes to assist you, he won't send you a bill for his services. These operations are funded through sales tax dollars. If you shop in another city, you help pay for public safety there instead of here in Edmond.

4)    You help maintain the wonderful quality of life here! Your sales tax supports our parks, trails, recreation programs and venues like Festival Market Place and the Mitch Park Amphitheater.

5)    You support community organizations and social service agencies that help those in need. Sales tax helps support the Hope Center, Edmond Mobile Meals, Edmond Family Services, UR Special and many other caring agencies.

6)    You help create jobs! You support businesses that employ your friends and neighbors.

7)    You can find what you are looking for right here in Edmond. We have a variety of retail and service stores, specialty shops, gift stores, boutiques, art galleries, and antiques.

8)    You minimize your carbon footprint when you shop locally rather than driving into other cities. Yes, you can shop and be environmentally-friendly!

9)    You invest in Edmond's future. Local businesses have a vested interest in the future of our community!

10)   You help Edmond maintain its uniqueness! Edmond has dozens of businesses that have been part of our community for years and contribute to our own special culture and character.

Go Green for the Holidays!

The Chamber's Green Council has been working hard to help local businesses be green and save money to help their bottom line. If you want to start going green at your company, the Council has two new downloads to help!

The new downloads are "Going Green - Where do I begin?" and "Start with the Low Hanging Fruit". These two downloads are great resources to begin your green journey. The web page also has other informational downloads, links to helpful web sites and a spotlight form for businesses who are using green practices.

"Just in time for the holidays, reusable shopping bags are about to go decidedly mainstream." Check out this article in USA Today and learn about discounts!!!!!

..."SHOP EDMOND" campaign. Sales tax is how we run the city - and this means sales tax is how we pay for services like police, fire, roads, and everything you expect as a city resident. Our sales tax numbers are down - but we can bring them back up. SHOP EDMOND is our way of reminding everyone that during the holidays, your sales tax dollars are important. We have great retail here and encourage you to visit our local merchants. Edmond has the lowest sales tax rate of any neighboring city, so it might even save you a few dollars. Read more...

City: Transit ridership doubles
"The last two months we've had increases in ridership for September and October of about 1,000 riders a month," Stevens said.

Saturday's ridership for routes one and two has increased to the point the use of a larger vehicle has become necessary, Stevens said. In October, there were 8,410 passengers using Citylink for transportation, he said. In contrast, the total ridership for July is listed as 4,609, while August totaled 5,000 transit riders.
