The summer has taken us by storm here at WAAAM. We have many exciting things to share with you. It really is time you to visit again. We look forward to seeing you and sharing what is new to us.

Happy 4th of July to you.I hope you will enjoy the day and celebrate this great country full of wonderful people.

On Independence Day, WAAAM  will be foremost in the Hood River Parade providing the Tsureta  Sisiter City visitors will the ride of their lives in our Antique Automobiles.

Look for these beautiful cars and our wonderful WAAAM Volunteers:

1923 Locomobile (Charlie Chaplin had one)

1928 Dodge Brothers Victory Six

1929 Packard Model 640 Super 8 Phaeton

1930 Model A

See you at 10am on the 4th  Give us a shout!

WAAAM will take to the skies with a few antique aircraft as the parade begins too.

All three beautiful antique WACO bi-planes have made it to WAAAM. This impressive gift along with 4 antique sailplanes are part of a Million Dollar Plus donation by Jerry and Sonja Wenger. Along with the aircraft, the Wengers had donated the funding to keep the WACOs flying for the next 10 years! Each airplane will have a 25 hour budget, annual inspection maintenance fund. the flights will be by volunteer pilots.

1929 WACO Taperwing,  1932 WACO UBF, 1935 WACO YPF-6

1939 Slinsby T6 Kite, 1939 Slinsby T13 Petrel, 1951 Dittmar Heini Condor lV and a Rhonbussard.

Here are a few links about the newest collection to wet your whistle:

Vintage Sail Planes

1908 Stanley Steamer Model K Raceabout. This is such a beautiful car. In 1908 the modern car was barely modern. On Loan from Bob Ullrich, who will be demonstrating this auto during the July Second Saturday. You have got to see this one!

A Russell Steam Tractor is calling WAAAM home now! It was built in 1908 and produces 10 horse power. Many times a entire community would pool there money to purchase a steam tractor.

Want to know more about Russells? Click HERE

On Loan from Don Timmons and family. They will be operating the Russell on July 14 here at WAAAM - See a picture in the WAAAM Camp section

The WACOs have been up and about since their arrival in Hood Kid pilot costume and UBFRiver. Volunteer Ben Davidson has flown the ATO to the Olympia Airshow and the UBF to the Richland, WA Fly-In. " These aircraft draw in a lot of attention and it is fun to share the story of the plane and the museum. With this gift from the Wengers we will be able to attend a few more Fly-Ins" say Davidson

     Volunteer Spotlight

    Meet the Andersons

Jean and Andy Anderson These two are in and out of WAAAM many times a week. Oh sure they have a regular four hour shift weekly but something about this place makes them pop in to lend a hand over and over.

Jean was a volunteer at Westside Elementary School for about 10 years before coming over to WAAAM to volunteer when the museum opened.  She worked with 2nd graders and helped with reading and math. In May of 2009 she was Volunteer of the Year for the Hood River County School District.

Andy was born and raised in Marianna, Pennsylvania a long time ago.  After volunteering and serving 3 years in the Army Military Police in Germany, he traveled across the country to San Jose, California to meet with his childhood neighbor Jean. Andy, Jean and family moved from San Jose to Hood River in 1969, He worked and retired from Sprint in 1995 after 26 years.  Andy has a total of 39 years in the telephone industry.

The Andersons have been married for 55 years.  During that

time, they have been able to travel extensively.  As Jean puts

it, "we have almost been around the world going to so many

countries like China/Tibet and Russia but Germany being the favorite country, we have been there 4 times !  Lots of good memories and experiences."   Now Jean and Andy are finding that River Cruises are the way to go .....

Being from Pennsylvania originally, the couple has crossed

our great country by trailer, by plane and by car ... having a

daughter and her family in Texas, they are exploring the

Southern part of our country more extensively.

These two folks have 5 grandsons ranging in age from 18-28 and

a granddaughter 24 years old. Also a bonus a great grandson! Yep they are busy.

Their commitment to WAAAM is to get young people involved in volunteering and learning about the antique autos and planes.  Andy really enjoys working on the antique cars in the museum. He is instrumental in the restoration of the 1919 Model T Ambulance that is going on now and they own a few autos that are on display at WAAAM.  They share their love of these antiques with the community as they are often seen in the local parades and out driving during the Second Saturdays at WAAAM. Jean runs heard on the front end greeting visitors and supports Andy in his restoration project.

Thank you, Jean and Andy. You help make WAAAM Wonderful!
