The Pope Elementary Dads Club has such a tradition (10 years and counting) that when it has events it not only lures current dads but also dads who no longer have children at the school. In fact, it was the Pope Dads Club alumni who helped build the stage area for the third annual Papá-paloosa, held Saturday at Swift Elementary. | Swift Elementary pre-K student Adrian J. gets a few fishing lessons from Marc Marchand, the city's fishing librarian, during Papá-paloosa Saturday.

Science Magic        

UTA Science Ambassadors

There's something about a teacher's hand going up in flames that's immensely entertaining to students, and that little scenario came about midway through a flurry of science demonstrations held in the cafeteria at Fitzgerald Elementary. | Fitzgerald Elementary fourth-grade teacher Laura Williams became part of a science experiment during a visit by the UTA Science Ambassadors.

Fourth graders at Remynse and Fitzgerald elementaries now know what perseverance looks like: Jarrett Krosoczka. When the author and illustrator visited the schools last week, he told them of the first rejection he received from a publisher for a picture book he'd written and illustrated. And the second rejection. And the third, the fifth, the eighth, the eleventh. | Author Jarrett Krosoczka shares some of his illustrations during a presentation at Remynse Elementary.

A Dell Scholar   

Dell Scholar"In all honesty, I don't think there was a teacher here who thought she wouldn't get it," said Lamar High School AVID Coordinator Travis Horton. He's speaking of senior Natalie G., recently named a Dell Scholar, which means she'll receive $20,000 in scholarship money spread out over her four-year college career.Lamar senior and Dell Scholar Natalie G. works with AVID Coordinator Travis Horton on her college plans.
