YFormer Speer students reminisce over scrapbooks

David Catrow knew he wanted to be an artist the day a crayon was put in his hand - and he ate it. He ate half of it, and used the other half to draw. Arlington High's Gift 

Dr. Bernard Harris Arlington High School Principal Jennifer Young likened her school's recent Salvation Army campaign to a competition without a loser. The senior class might have generated 1,267 fundraising points to narrowly beat out the junior class at 1,190, but with the freshmen earning 509 and the sophomores 501, the grand total Arlington brought the Salvation Army on Dec. 9 was a win-win. | Salvation Army Capt. Happy Holidays, in Song      

AISD Access Holiday shoppers passing by Barnes & Noble at the Parks Mall on Dec. 13 received a pleasant surprise. There were students from the Bowie High School chorale department delighting shoppers with an array of holiday classics such as Little Drummer Boy, Do You Hear What I Hear, Wintersong and O Holy Night. | Bowie senior Victor T. performs like Elvis in a rendition of Jingle Bells.

News Briefs
Winter Break
Students will be dismissed early Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 19 and 20. The AISD will be closed Dec. 21-Jan. 3 for Winter Break. Wednesday, Jan. 4 is a teacher preparation day. Classes resume Thursday, Jan. 5.
Financial Futures Committee
The AISD Board of Trustees will begin accepting applications from parents and community members who wish to serve on the Financial Futures Committee on Monday, Dec. 19. Applications will be online. The deadline to apply is Thursday, Jan. 12.
