Mission and Vision of the CAS District Our Mission: The Mission of the Capitol Area South District is to encourage and equip United Methodist congregations in their mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Our Vision
The vision of the Capitol Area South District is that all local churches are to be disciple-making centers that mirror the demographic composition of the community in which they are located in terms of age, ethnicity, and cultural background; and that the congregations continually grow and reach new people for Christ and strive to be open and inclusive of all God's children.

Pastor Ruben, Gabriela, and Samuel
|
We have received word from Bishop Garcia that Pastor Lorenzo who has been serving the Vida y Esperanza Church at San Luis Potosi has received a new appointment in the city of Reynosa, Tamps. Bishop Garcia summarizes Pastor Lorenzo's ministry at the San Luis congregation, "The congregation is now a stable group of committed Christians, the land has been fully paid, and we are ready to start building once we get new blue prints due to the addition of another piece of property to the original fraction."
Bishop Garcia has appointed the Rev. Ruben Rodriquez as the new pastor of the Vida y Esperanza Church in San Luis Potosi. Bishop Garcia says that he personally took the time to introduce the new pastor to some of the church leaders in San Luis. The bishop states that Pastor Ruben and his wife Gabriela (Gaby) and their son Samuel realize the challenge, but the bishop is positive that Pastor Ruben is fully equipped by the Spirit to do the job according to God's plan.
It is hoped that when Pastor Ruben will be able to assist the congregation in securing the architectural plans and building approvals necessary for the construction of the church building in San Luis.
District Superintendent Barb Sholis has indicated that the district will continue to support the San Luis church project and Pastor Ruben. The salary supplement that allowed Pastor Lorenzo to serve in a full time capacity in the church will continue for Pastor Ruben. The district agreed two years ago to contribute $500 a month to help Pastor Lorenzo (and now Pastor Ruben) to serve full time. The salary supplement will conclude at the end of 2013.
Please be in prayer for Pastor Ruben as he assumes the leadership role of the Vida y Esperanza Church at this time. Pray for the people of the congregation and for Pastor Lorenzo and his family as he moves to his new appointment.
The San Luis Team will meet in September to make plans to return to San Luis. If you would like to be a part of this mission trip, please contact Jim Waugh at the district office.

Jim's Tool Box
Right Brain vs. Left Brain Thinking: What Difference Does It Make?
Are you a left brain or right brain person (See the illustration below)? Do you know? Does it make a difference for you or for your church. Dr. George Bullard says that the post modern culture operates out of a more right brain perspective. Many leaders in our churches and the culture in many of our congregations operate more from a left brain orientation. What is the impact of this difference for your church? That is the issue that Jim addresses in his Tool Box article this month.

Plans for the Charge/Church Conferences for this Fall
District Superintendent Barb Sholis has announced a new twist for the charge/church conference schedule for the congregations of the Capitol Area South (CAS) District.
Barb has announced:
I have decided to employ a pattern that will allow either the district superintendent or the assistant to the superintendent to conduct individual church conferences in every church/charge at least once during my tenure as superintendent. This year my focus is primariily on the congregations in Franklin County along with a few congregations outside of the county. The pastors of the churches that will be having individual charge conferences have received a schedule for the charge conferences.
Again this year, congregations/charges in Licking,Fairfield, Pickaway, and Madison Counties (with a few exceptions) will conduct their own charge conferences (only members of the Church Council have a vote) or church conferences (all members of the congregation have a vote) in the local churches. After consulting with local church leaders, each pastor will set a date for the meeting. The pastor will then invite an ordained elder (active or retired) to preside at the business session. After the arrangements for the conference are set, the pastor will submit the details about the meeting including the date of the conference and the presiding elder to the district office via an online form or hard copy.
Please plan to schedule the charge/church conference in a two month window from October 1 to November 30 for the completion of the charge conferences. Pastors are expected to mail in the completed charge conference packets to the district office within one week of the charge conference gathering.
