Mission and Vision of the CAS District Our Mission:
The Mission of the Capitol Area South District is to encourage and equip United Methodist congregations in their mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Our Vision
The vision of the Capitol Area South District is that all local churches are to be disciple-making centers that mirror the demographic composition of the community in which they are located in terms of age, ethnicity, and cultural background; and that the congregations continually grow and reach new people for Christ and strive to be open and inclusive of all God's children.

dennis miller motorcyle Send Off for Dennis Miller on June 24

"NORTH TO ALASKA" is a motorcycle charity ride for the United Methodist Church in Vietnam.  On Sunday, June 24, 2012, Bishop Bruce Ough will send off Dr. Dennis Miller, senior pastor of Grove City United Methodist Church, on a 15 day, 6,200 mile motorcycle trip to Hyder, Alaska to raise money for the purchase of motorbikes for United Methodist pastors in Vietnam. All expenses for the "North to Alaska" trip will come out of Dennis' pocket including his motorcycle, fuel, tolls, food, lodging, equipment, etc. Furthermore, he will fund the purchase of a motorbike for a Vietnamese United Methodist pastor, and invite others to donate for additional bikes. Shawnee Valley Superintendent Dr. Joseph Bishman will join Dennis for two-thirds of the trip. Through his website site, you will be able to follow their epic journey to the "last frontier." Dennis will be blogging each day and will be posting photographs. He will also be using a SPOT satellite transceiver so those back home can track his location every 10 minutes while riding.

JOIN US IN SENDING DENNIS AND JOSEPH OFF ON THEIR JOURNEY.  Bishop Ough will send the riders off with prayer on 2:30 PM, Sunday, June 24 at the Conference Office - 32 Wesley Columbus Ohio.  Any bikers can ride to the state line as escort. Friends, many people will come to Christ as savior when you help purchase a motorbike for UM pastor in Vietnam. 485 persons in Vietnam gave their lives to Christ in December alone!  Pray and get involved.

To learn more about Dennis' exciting adventure please check out his website at: www.dennisalaska.wordpress.com

'Tis the Season for Pastoral Evaluations

Pastors and Chairs of Staff/Pastor-Parish Relations Committees should have received a cover letter and pastoral evaluation form.

The evaluation process is an important part of the work of the Staff/Pastor-Parish Relations Committee (S/PPRC).  The conversation around evaluations is often one of the most difficult conversations that pastors and S/PPRC members will have during the year.

In this month's article Jim offers some other resources that do not replace but do supplement the evaluation process.  Click HERE to read Jim's article.

Freedom Schools Make a Difference for Children Across Central Ohio

In Ohio, 64% of public school fourth graders are unable to read at grade level. Children from at-risk communities who do not read at grade level by third grade have a dramatically increased likelihood of incarceration as adults. Freedom Schools can help!

Beth writes this month about the work of the Freedom Schools that are taking place this summer across central Ohio.  Volunteers are still needed in the schools taking place now.  Click HERE to read about the schools and how you can help make a difference!

Effective Ministry for the Small Membership

Church with Doug Anderson

Bring a church/charge team to the next TARRP (Town & Rural Resource Program) workshop on Sat., Aug. 11, 2012! This event's focus will be to better understand why many small churches have difficulty moving forward, how to be more invitational, how to extend leadership, how to reach out to new persons, understand the differences in sizes of small church, and learn how to work more effectively with the other churches on your charge or in your area.

This August 11 event, from 9 -4, will be held at the Marne UMC, just east of Newark, off Rt. 16. The price of the event (off-set in part from apportionment giving) will be $35.00 for one, $30.00/person if there are 2 attending from your church, and $25.00/person if there are 3 or more attending from your church/charge. Your district may offer support to help off-set part of the cost. The price includes the event, snacks, lunch, and handouts. Books from Cokesbury will be available for purchase. This counts as .5 CEU's.

A Note from Tater: Thanks for the Potatoes

Society of St. AndrewsThank you for your generosity of 5300 pounds of potatoes and the $600.00 you donated to help the Society of St. Andrew feed the hungry. The need is great as there are so many hungry and homeless in this country. How long will God continue to bless this country when we do not take care of the poor and needy? This is what He taught while walking upon this earth He created.

I am sorry I could not be at conference Wednesday due to a doctors appointment. Please keep me in your prayers as I have a chemo treatment on Wednesday Thursday and Monday. Thank you for your prayers for our son George who has mental issues since going through the trauma of the fire last August.
