Mission and Vision of the CAS District Our Mission:
The Mission of the Capitol Area South District is to encourage and equip United Methodist congregations in their mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Our Vision
The vision of the Capitol Area South District is that all local churches are to be disciple-making centers that mirror the demographic composition of the community in which they are located in terms of age, ethnicity, and cultural background; and that the congregations continually grow and reach new people for Christ and strive to be open and inclusive of all God's children.

dennis miller motorcyle Capitol Area South Pastor to Ride to Alaska for the UMC of Vietnam

"NORTH TO ALASKA" is a motorcycle charity ride for the United Methodist Church in Vietnam.  On Sunday, June 24, 2012, Bishop Bruce Ough will send off Dr. Dennis Miller, senior pastor of Grove City United Methodist Church, on a 15 day, 6,200 mile motorcycle trip to Hyder, Alaska to raise money for the purchase of motorbikes for United Methodist pastors in Vietnam. All expenses for the "North to Alaska" trip will come out of Dennis' pocket including his motorcycle, fuel, tolls, food, lodging, equipment, etc. Furthermore, he will fund the purchase of a motorbike for a Vietnamese United Methodist pastor, and invite others to donate for additional bikes. Shawnee Valley Superintendent Dr. Joseph Bishman will join Dennis for two-thirds of the trip. Through his website site, you will be able to follow their epic journey to the "last frontier." Dennis will be blogging each day and will be posting photographs. He will also be using a SPOT satellite transceiver so those back home can track his location every 10 minutes while riding.

JOIN US IN SENDING DENNIS AND JOSEPH OFF ON THEIR JOURNEY.  Bishop Ough will send the riders off with prayer on 2:30 PM, Sunday, June 24 at the Conference Office - 32 Wesley Columbus Ohio.  Any bikers can ride to the state line as escort. Friends, many people will come to Christ as savior when you help purchase a motorbike for UM pastor in Vietnam. 485 persons in Vietnam gave their lives to Christ in December alone!  Pray and get involved.

To learn more about Dennis' exciting adventure and see how you can partner with him, please check out his website at: www.dennisalaska.wordpress.com

Mission Trip to Mississippi
St. Paul's UMC Findlay Ohio is sponsoring a mission to Heritage UMC in D'Iberville Mississippi.  The mission begins October 13  and returns October 27.  We offer the opportunity to leave on 10/13 and
return the 10/21, leave October 10/21 and return the10/27 or leave on the 10/13 and stay until the 10/27.

The cost for 1 week is $225 and 2 weeks is $325.  Heritage has a bunk house complete with kitchen, large bathrooms and room to sleep about 50 people.  We do any kind of construction that is needed including finish work.  On our most recent mission we installed a complete kitchen after shoring up the floor and a header that was inadequate.

The Heritage church has a shop with some tools and some supplies; however we take as many tools as we can to make sure we can do the assignments we receive. We believe the folks who have now been either displaced or inconvenienced for 7 years deserve any help that we can provide.  All of our team feels called to this work and are blessed by the new hope we see instilled in those we help.  We have found our team blessed to possess the ability to overcome the lack of expertise to accomplish each task we were assigned.

We carpool down and back and the fee covers the cost of gas for the whole trip and the meals while in Mississippi.  For more information, contact David Tharp, St. Paul's UMC, Dtharp6821@aol.com, 419-306-4466.

WO Conf Logo 2012

Here is important information that clergy and lay members to annual conference need to know as you prepare to attend this year's annual conference session at Lakeside during June 10-13.

The Book of Reports is now available online as a downloadable pdf.  This year's Book of Reports contains primarily information that you will want to review for voting purposes at annual conference. Additional information about registration, Miracle Offering, check-in, agenda, events, speakers, and other documents and forms can be found on the 2012 Annual Conference website.  Please check that website regularly for updates. Click HERE to go to the 2012 Annual Conference website.  The "Quick Links" on the lower left of the page include a link for downloading the Book of Reports.  If you are unable to download a copy, please contact the district office to receive a hard copy.

If you have not yet registered for annual conference, please do so immediately.  All members of the annual conference must be registered in advance of annual conference in our online registration system.  If you are unable to register online or if you believe you received this email in error because you are not a member of the annual conference this year, please contact your district office.  If  you are clergy and are unable to attend, you must let the Conference Secretary, Rev. Cean Wilson, know of your reason to be excused.  If you are a lay member and you are unable to attend, please notify your pastor so that an alternate can be selected, and then notify your district office immediately of the change. You can follow the same link above to the 2012 Annual Conference page.  Under the Quick Links, click on "Registration" to register for annual conference.

New this year - check-in at Lakeside is in Wesley Lodge, not at Hoover. Details are in the Book of Reports and on the 2012 Annual Conference website. Please also let your church members, family and friends know that we will be live streaming the entirety of the conference from Hoover Auditorium, including the Celebration of Life and Ministry service.

MissionInsite Offers New Help Guide

MIssionInsite Logo 2MissionInsite is the demo-graphic information service avail-able at no additional charge to congregational leaders in the West Ohio Conference.  Your church can have as many individual logons as you need.  MissionInsite has recently produced a new "how to" guide for new or beginner users.

Here is MissionInsite's description of the new guide:

Introducing the MissionInsite SupportNet Guide, a two page question and answer "how to" guide for the many ministry planning tools available on the MI System.  Many of us have used "quick reference" cards for our favorite software that list keyboard shortcuts, function commands or basic "how to" information in one or two pages.  With that in mind, we created a two page quick reference guide that we believe covers most of the essential questions that our local church users have asked us.

Click HERE to download a copy of the guide.  If you have other questions, Please feel free to contact Jim Waugh (jwaugh@wocumc.org) at the district office.

Thanks to All for Help with Hebron Flood Relief Efforts

Here is a note from Pastor Bob Beyer at Jacksontown UMC with an update and word of appreciation to all who assisted with the flood relief in the Hebron area:

Thanks to everyone who assisted us in helping the village of Hebron during the flood.  On the Hebron Relief project, I would like to report that the LAMA (Lakewood Area Ministerial Association) distributed over $14,000.00 to 26 households and 1 church (Hebron Nazarene) all of which had damages from the flood and completed applications for flood relief.  The Nazarene Church did not apply for relief but they were hard hit having to redo their fellowship hall and we had funds come in after the initial distribution and the members of LAMA voted to help them with their financial loss.

There are still some monies coming in and placed in the fund for any future disaster discoveries which have not been addressed, but we have been well pleased with what was accomplished.

Thanks to everyone for their caring response to this disaster.  A special Thanks to CAS District for their response and the West Ohio Conference for supplying  flood buckets. I love it , we can do so much togethe, to help so many in need.   May God's blessings be upon you today...   PB, Jacksontown United Methodist
