Mission and Vision of the CAS District

Our Mission:
The Mission of the Capitol Area South District is to encourage and equip United Methodist congregations in their mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Our Vision
The vision of the Capitol Area South District is that all local churches are to be disciple-making centers that mirror the demographic composition of the community in which they are located in terms of age, ethnicity, and cultural background; and that the congregations continually grow and reach new people for Christ and strive to be open and inclusive of all God's children.

Debi Nixon

Debi Nixon

Debi Nixon
who is the Managing Executive Director of Regional Campuses & Catalyst at the Church of the Resurrection will lead the training.  Debi has announced the other members of the Church of the Resurrection Team who will accompany her to the training.  She write the following:

I wanted to following up on who the additional presenter will be.   I am excited because I will actually be joined by two Resurrection team members for your Leading Beyond the Walls training. One is my counterpart, Randy Meyer who
Randy Meyer

Randy Meyer

serves as the Executive Director of Education and is a gifted strategic leader and team builder at Resurrection
. He left a lucrative career in Corporate America to serve on the church staff and you will see immediately his deep love for Christ and a passion for church renewal.  Jack Highfill, our volunteer Lay Leader will also be coming. He is considering retiring in the next year, and I have invited him to observe this training in hopes of recruiting him as a future speaker for our team. How Are We Connecting People
With God Through Our Worship?
One of the common experiences that most believers share is the opportunity to share in worship (assuming that folks show up). For many clergy, the planning and execution of the weekly worship experience(s) takes a lot of time and energy. But how are we doing in connecting to God through the experiences they have in the services?  We know that God shows up at church, but how are we doing about helping others to sense God's presence in their lives?  In this month's article Jim suggests some ways that can help us prepare for those "God moments."

Update from SOWER VIM Project

The SOWER VIM Team (a ministry that builds homes in the mountains of southeast Kentucky) is in the planning stages for constructing the 11th home for a family in 2012. The cost of materials to build one of the 28' x 28' or 28' x 32' houses from the ground up is approximately $36,000 to $40,000. The SOWER VIM Project is in need of both funding to cover material costs and volunteers for the build.

The SOWER VIM Leadership Team is requesting that the churches of West Ohio prayerfully consider supporting this worthwhile project in Southeastern Kentucky financially with a pledge of support as well as providing volunteers to do the actual construction. Those that have served on SOWER work teams comment that, while they have helped a family by serving, they gained much from the interaction and relationships with the family and fellow team members. West Ohio Conference churches are invited to participate in this rewarding project with your prayers, your volunteer labor, and your financial support.

Click HERE to download a copy of the letter about the SOWER project and ways that you and your congregation can participate in this ministry.

CROP Hunger Walks -- We Walk Together
CROP Walk

The CROP Hunger Walk is the oldest charity walk in the United States and takes place in some 1,500 communities.  Throughout the years neighbors of different  faiths, cultures and ages have walked together as people of faith in the fight to end hunger.

This year we walk together around the theme of water.  Did you know that more than a billion people in the world lack access to clean water and 2.1 million people, most of them children die each year of waterborne disease?  The good news is that through the support of CROP Hunger Walkers, Church World Service is able to provide clean, healthy and accessible water to millions of people around the world.  One walker who raises $100 can provide five bio-sand filters giving families the ability to drink their water safely.  Now just imagine the difference we make when we walk together!

To get your church involved visit www.cropwalk.org and find the walk nearest to you by clicking on Ohio on the map or by entering your ZIP code.  We hope you will join us!
