Mission and Vision of the CAS District Our Mission: The Mission of the Capitol Area South District is to encourage and equip United Methodist congregations in their mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Our Vision The vision of the Capitol Area South District is that all local churches are to be disciple-making centers that mirror the demographic composition of the community in which they are located in terms of age, ethnicity, and cultural background; and that the congregations continually grow and reach new people for Christ and strive to be open and inclusive of all God's children. New Pattern Announced for Charge Conferences
District Superintendent Barb Sholis has announced a new pattern for the charge/church conferences that local churches will participate in this fall. Barb made the announcement at the two pre-church conference briefings that were held this month.
Pastors learned at the briefings that each church/charge will conduct its own charge conference (only members of the Church Council have a vote) or church conference (all members of the congregation have a vote) in the local churches. After consulting with local church leaders, the pastor will set a date for the meeting. The pastor will then invite an ordained elder (active or retired) to preside at the business session. After the arrangements for the conference are set, the information will about the meeting will be submitted to the district office via online form or hard copy that will inform the district office about the schedule for the meeting and the elder who will be presiding.
Barb Sholis announced a two month window (Oct. 1-Nov. 30) for the completion of the charge conferences. Pastors are expected to mail in the completed charge conference packets to the district office within one week of the charge conference gathering.
Since Barb is in the process of making a round of visits to each church/charge in the district and conducting one to ones with the pastors during the visits, she will not be present at these charge conference gatherings. Click HERE to see an update of Barb's schedule for visits to local churches.

Last month the district forwarded the second installment of our salary supplement support for Pastor Lorenzo in his ministry work at the Methodist Church in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The CAS District has committed to raising $500 a month ($6,000 annually) for three years to make it possible for Pastor Lorenzo to give up his second job and concentrate on leading the congregations he is serving in the Oriental Conference in Mexico. We have raised and forwarded the first years installment. We have commitments toward raising most of the remainder of these funds. If you or your church have made a commitment to contribute to this cause, please remember to continue your gifts. The next installment of $3,000 will be sent in January, 2012. Click HERE to go to a pledge form on which you can submit your pledge to support Pastor Lorenzo in his work in San Luis and the other congregations that he serves. Here is the note we received from Pastor Lorenzo and Veronica: Gracias por todo su apoyo. Para nosotros esta ayuda es una confirmación de continuar ministrando en esta área.
