Mission and Vision of the CAS District
Our Mission:
The Mission of the Capitol Area South District is to encourage and equip United Methodist congregations in their mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Our Vision
The vision of the Capitol Area South District is that all local churches are to be disciple-making centers that mirror the demographic composition of the community in which they are located in terms of age, ethnicity, and cultural background; and that the congregations continually grow and reach new people for Christ and strive to be open and inclusive of all God's children. District Conference Gathered on Pentecost Sunday
Under the banner of "Pentecost Power: Prayer and Fasting for Transformation" pastors, lay members to annual conference, and other church leaders gathered at the Livingston UMC on Pentecost Sunday.
District Superintendent Hank Stringer convened the district conference and welcomed all in attendance.
The Steppin Into Faith Step Team opened the worship. Later in the service The Faith Angels Liturgical Dancers offered a worshipful dance number.
The energetic Praise Band from New Life Community UMC, Hebron led those gathered in worshipful music. New Life Community is the most recently chartered congregation in the district.
After a stirring message by District Superintendent Hank Stringer, the Rev. Aaron Brown led the assembly in a time of prayer as laity laid hand upon and prayed for pastors. Then pastors were invited to lay hands upon and pray for the laity who were present at the meeting.
Hank Stringer then recognized pastors who are/have retired including Ms. Marsha Elsen (retired local pastor) and the Rev. Scott Kelso. In addition, Hank then recognized those pastors who have been approved for full membership and elders ordination including the Rev. Jeremy Moyers, the Rev. Robert Sholis, and the Rev. Eva Marie Wolfe.
Dr. Stringer then led the conference in adopting the district budget for 2011. The Rev. Jim Riggs, treasurer for the CAS Board of Directors presented the budget and reported that the amount apportioned to the churches in the budget is the same amount apportioned in the current budget. The budget as adopted represents a 2.8 % increase over the 2010 budget ($287,329/$279,485).
Hank Stringer presented the report of the Distict Committee on Nominations, and the slate of officers for 2010-11 was elected.

Bishop Ough Says "Thanks" for All the Help with the Council of Bishops Meeting
By all accounts, the recent Council of Bishop's meeting in Columbus was very successful. Along with their meeting, the bishops had the opportunity to "love in action" through projects across the Capitol Area North and Capitol Area South Districts. In addition many pastors and laity took the time to assist with "radical hospitality" toward the Council of Bishops while they met in Columbus.
