Capitol Area South Mission and Vision:
Our Mission:
The Mission of the Capitol Area South District is to encourage and equip United Methodist congregations in their mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Our Vision:
The vision of the Capitol Area South District is that all local churches are to be disciple-making centers that mirror the demographic composition of the community in which they are located in terms of age, ethnicity, and cultural background; and that the congregations continually grow and reach new people for Christ and strive to be open and inclusive of all God's children. Jim's Tool Box
In Some of Our Churches It Seems Like 1959
In this month's Tool Box I reminisce about a small corner market that still exists in my home town. Many of these small neighborhood stores could be found in my hometown. They were present in most communities. Now few remain.
Walking into this corner market is a step back in time, but that's also the feeling that I get when I walk into worship in some of the congregations in the CAS District.
Click HERE to read this month's Tool Box and then think about the questions that Jim raises at the conclusion of his article:
1. What is the style of the worship in your church? Do you find it satisfying? Are new persons in your community/neighborhood attracted to your congregation? It is because of the worship or other factors?
2. Does your congregation reflect the characteristics of a growing mainline congregation that Hamm describes in his article? Which one(s) is the strongest in your church?
3. Do you think folks in the congregation you attend are willing to adapt their worship service style to what Hamm describes a "lively worship" whether it is traditional or contemporary?
