On June 10, 1971, the Ontario Theatre Conference opened in Geneva Park on Lake Couchiching in Orillia. It was a four-day event focused on "education, youth theatre, community theatre, and the theatre professional." By the end of the conference, a new central organization had been proposed, a steering committee had been struck, and - after much debate - the participants had agreed upon a name: Theatre Ontario.
Forty years later, their legacy can be seen through a remarkably diverse range of programs, services and events.
