Gateway Theatre Guild wins top honours at Festival 2010
 
Waiting For GodotCongratulations to Gateway Theatre Guild of North Bay.  Their production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting For Godot was awarded the Elsie for Outstanding Production in Festival by Sears & Switzer at the 2010 Theatre Ontario Festival.  Read the full list of Festival Award Winners.

Welcome to our New Board Members
 
We are pleased to welcome the new Theatre Ontario Board members who were elected on May 22 to join our Board for 2010-2012.
 
Patrick Gauthier of Ottawa and Michael Grit of Richmond Hill were elected to the Board, and Andy Trasuk of Cornwall was appointed as the new representative from the Eastern Ontario Drama League.  The Western Ontario Drama League representative will be appointed in July.  Read more
 
We would like to thank John Mayberry, Katherine Grainger, Marcia Johnson and Bill Meaden who finished their terms on the Board.
Summer Training Opportunities
 
June 15 is the deadline to apply for our Summer Theatre Intensive in Peterborough.  We're offering four exciting courses:
  • Make 'Em Laugh: Comedy Performance Skills for Actors, with Heather Dick
  • "Who's The Boss Here Anyway?": Introduction to Directing, with John P. Kelly
  • Taking The Rough With The Smooth: Advanced Scene Study, with Christopher Newton
  • Directors Symposium, with Philip Akin, Leah Cherniak, Eric Coates, Susan Ferley and Richard Rose

Funding training opportunities for youth
 
Theatre Ontario's Youth Theatre Training Program (YTTP) Jury was able to award $26,000 in grants to help training opportunity for youth across Ontario.  Read more
 
YTTP is funded by the Ontario Arts Council.

Shaw Director Project Deadline Approaching
 
There is one month left to submit your applications for the 2011 Neil Munro Intern Directors Project at the Shaw Festival.  The Project is a training opportunity for emerging professional directors, who have a fair bit of professional experience, but none with a company as large as The Shaw.  The deadline is June 30Read more
Violence and harassment in the workplace 
 
New provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements for violence and harassment in the workplace take effect this month.  Any member theatre that didn't receive our summary email should contact Brandon Moore, Communications Coordinator, at news@theatreontario.org for more information.
