2009 is shaping up to be challenging and exciting!

Starting in January, I will be teaching a Leadership course in the Master's program at St. Mary's University in Minneapolis. This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time so I am excited to have the opportunity.

I will continue my role as Team Leader for the 2009 Rein in Sarcoma event. Last summer, nearly 1,000 people participated in our event and helped us raise $80,000. It was pretty remarkable.
Rein in Sarcoma is a Minnesota non-profit Foundation dedicated to finding a cure for sarcoma cancers through research, educating about sarcomas, and supporting sarcoma survivors and their loved ones. RIS is an organization that is near and dear to my heart.

Greetings!

When I think about Good Things I'd like to share with clients and colleagues, three things come to mind: Good Books, Good Training and Good Giving
Good Books

So many books, so little time. Sound familiar? Knowing how precious time is and how many books there are, I have decided to publish Lisa's List of Good Books on my website. These are books that I have read and highly recommend.
I will continue to add to this list, so be sure to visit often. Here are a few of my current favorites:

Book: TransparencyTransparency: How Leaders Create a Culture of Candor by by Warren Bennis (Author), Daniel Goleman (Author), James O'Toole (Author)

The timing couldn't be more perfect for this book. I've noticed that the word bailout has become part of our day-to-day conversation. That said, we need to examine the who, what and why's of what is happening so we learn - and we need to embrace transparency so we don't repeat.

"In a time when the reputation of an organization or a leader can be shattered by the click of a mouse, transparency is often a matter of survival in a world of global competition. But as stakeholders in different organizations increasingly clamor for transparency, what are they truly asking for? What is the promise of transparency? In three interconnected essays, the authors examine transparency from three different vantage points-within and between organizations, in terms of personal responsibility, and finally, in the context of the new digital reality-all with an emphasis on how these relate to leaders and leadership."

Book: Whole New MindA Whole new Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future by Daniel Pink (author)

If you ever get a chance to hear Daniel Pink present, you are in for a real treat. I heard him speak at the University of Minnesota this past June. He was fantastic. His messages in person and in print are so relevant!

"The future belongs to a different kind of person with a different kind of mind: artists, inventors, storytellers-creative and holistic "right-brain" thinkers whose abilities mark the fault line between who gets ahead and who doesn't. Drawing on research from around the world, Pink outlines the six fundamentally human abilities that are absolute essentials for professional success and personal fulfillment-and reveals how to master them. A Whole New Mind takes readers to a daring new place, and a provocative and necessary new way of thinking about a future that's already here."

Tom Friedman's book, The World is Flat, was on my "Good Book" list for 2007. This book is definitely one of my favorites for this year.

"Friedman makes it clear that the green revolution we need is like no revolution the world has seen. It will be the biggest innovation project in American history; it will be hard, not easy; and it will change everything from what we put into your car to what we see on your electric bill. But the payoff for America will be more than just cleaner air. It will inspire Americans to something we haven't seen in a long time--nation-building in America--by summoning the intelligence, creativity, boldness, and concern for the common good that are our nation's greatest natural resources."

Good Training

EQ-i Certification Training

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is a critical competence for personal and professional success. Help your clients lead a more successful and satisfying life by developing their EQ.

The EQ-i (Emotional Quotient Inventory) is the first validated assessment to measure emotional/social functioning. It is being used by coaches and consultants worldwide to support life/work coaching and mentoring, organization, leadership and team development.

Certification training will teach you what you need to know to successfully administer the EQ-i. The session is designed to provide hands-on practice to help you internalize and strengthen your skill at analyzing, interpreting and debriefing the EQ-i.

At the end of EQ-i Certification, you will understand the Bar On model and concepts of emotional intelligence as well as the science behind the instrument.
