| Letter from the President | |
Spring has sprung and early indicators of welcome growth in the New Year have come to fruition for many. Business has picked up in showrooms throughout the area. People have come out in greater numbers coupled with positive increases in remodeling and even building. I was fortunate enough earlier this month to attend KBIS 2010 in Chicago. The Show was much smaller than last year, again, but the Show presenters and vendors were enthusiastic. The size allowed you to spend more quality time with vendors and the attendees were excited to be there. Many of the Big Guns were still noticeably absent - SubZero, Wolf, Electrolux... to name a few. The programs, seminars, and speakers were very well attended and refreshing to hear. It gave me reason for optimism, again. Back on the home front, the NNE Chapter Board is already beginning to plan for 2011. If you have a passion for our industry and can commit some volunteer time, please consider helping out in some areas of our Chapter. We welcome new faces and ideas!
Sincerely,
Steve Chandler, Chapter President National Kitchen & Bath Association Northern New England Chapter |
| Lead-Based Paint Removal Rules |
By Edward S. Nagorsky, Esq., NKBA General Counsel and Director of Legislative Affairs
Beginning April 22, 2010, the EPA's rules regarding lead renovation, repair, and painting in the remodeling of homes where lead-based paint may be present will go into effect.
Under the rules, contractors performing work that disturbs lead-based paint in housing, childcare facilities, and schools built before 1978 must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Those practices include posting warning signs for occupants and visitors, using disposable plastic drop cloths, and cleaning the work area with HEPA vacuuming and wet washing. Most importantly, the rules require that contractors be certified in lead removal through a training course. Read the rest of Ed's article on lead paint on the NKBA website by clicking here. |

Who: Tracy Hanlon Amesbury MA
NKBA Kitchen and Bath Design Program Student @ the BAC
Student Chapter Vice President
After working in the banking, floral and home inspection industry, I decided to combine my experience and pursue my passion for K&B design. I wanted a strong education and started at the BAC. I have learned so much and I am eager to learn more. All of my instructors have been outstanding.
Serving as VP of the student chapter this year has given me an excellent opportunity to network with K&B businesses. They have been so generous to the students. I also enjoy attending the NNE chapter meetings. I always learn something and meet great people. I look forward to the future with NKBA. |
