It's certainly peak season in Naples! It was good to see so many of you take time out of your busy schedule and join us for our February Lunch N' Learn where we enjoyed a lively session on developing our personal and business brand.

 

We're changing gears a bit this month. Understanding how legal terms affect both our clients and our own companies is an important element in an adept PR practitioner's professional arsenal.  Our March program welcomes Miami attorney, Jason Gordon, for a informative discussion of Media Law the legal aspects of setting up and running a PR business.  Whether you are a corporate communicator, sole practitioner, non-profit executive or work for a governmental agency, you'll find this presentation beneficial.   Please join us!

Keeping Safe in an Aggressive PR World 

 

Ever wondered about the many legal questions PR practitioners face? Ever wondered whether you should have written contracts and if so what terms you should include?  Has your organization's lawyers told you not to release certain information to the media or the public? 

 

If so, Miami attorney Jason Gordon will answer all these questions and more at our next Lunch and Learn on March 27.  Mr. Gordon's presentation will provide you with important legal information you need to successfully practice public relations and to stay away from legal troubles. 

 

Mr. Gordon, a South Florida native and alumnus of the University of Miami and the University of Florida Levin College of Law, is an attorney with Heller Waldman P.L. in Coconut Grove.  Mr. Gordon brings years of legal experience dealing with business and commercial litigation and on issues involving public relations practitioners. 

 

Topics Mr. Gordon will address during his presentation will include: 

 

 

1. Common terms in contracts for PR work which can lead to trouble, including unclear terms; 

2. Terms that should be included in contracts; 

3. Protecting the PR professional's work, including rights to use and avoiding responsibility for incorrect information or statements to the public; and

Russell Tuff has been active in the communications/media business in SW Florida since 1988

He received a double Majored in Business Administration and History/Political Science and Minored in Religion from Jamestown College, Jamestown ND. 

 

Tuff is currently the managing Partner in Social-Impact, a Public Relations/Marketing firm specializing in utilizing the Internet and the various media platforms to form the basis for all public relations and marketing efforts. 

 

In addition, Tuff maintains a media consulting business called Tuff News. 

 

Prior to starting his PR Firm, Tuff published newspapers in Minnesota, as well as in Florida, when he sold his publishing business in 2004. In 2005, he joined Scripps Media Group as a publisher and launched and ran several community publications. He was later promoted to Executive Editor of Community Publications and Niche Publications for the Scripps Media Group.
