NAMC Food Price Monitor, August 2012
 The July 2012 Consumer Price Index (CPI) released by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) showed that food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation was 5.3 % between July 2011 and July 2012. Headline CPI was 4.9 % between July 2011 and July 2012. The previous Food Price Monitor (FPM) of May 2012 reported that food and non-alcoholic beverages index was 8.7 % between April 2011 and April 2012. Click to download the full media release»

The dti response to Co-operative Amendment Bill Submissions in Parliament
 This past week the dti presented their response to the recent submissions on the Co-operatives Amendment Bill made to the Portfolio Committee in Parliament. A number of Agbiz members conduct their business in a co-operative form and it is important that they especially are aware of what the issues were that were raised, and more importantly, what government's thinking on these matters is. Of specific importance to agricultural co-operatives are the issues pertaining to juristic persons and the holding of a reserve. Agbiz played a major role in the NEDLAC process to ensure an enabling policy environment for agricultural co-operatives and deems the Co-operative Amendment Bill to be a considerable improvement on the Co-operatives Act of 2005. Department of Labour response to hearings on Labour Bills
 The Department of Labour (DoL) this past week responded to the public hearings in Parliament on the highly controversial Labour Relations Amendment Bill and Basic Conditions of Employment Amendment Bill that were submitted to Parliament on the 23rd of May this year. It is important for Human Resource Practitioners in Agribusinesses, as well as agricultural producers, to be fully aware of the main issues of concern and debate.
