That's What Friends Are For...Thank You!

February brought us together with old friends and new.  A dear friend and supporter of Habitat for Humanity called a few weeks ago after reading an article in the local newspaper about our capital campaign.  Jean asked how the progress was going and expressed that she might be able to help.  She explained to me that the reason she enjoys helping Habitat is because the families work so hard to "earn" their homes.  "It take a lot of energy to work all day, raise a family, and make a commitment to building a home", said Jean.  "Habitat is there to help families succeed."

The following day, Jean went to a friend's house to read to her.  Jean's friend is blind and recently widowed.  Her friend listened as Jean read to her about Habitat's campaign and how Habitat helps working, low income families break out of poverty and become self reliant.   Jean went on to tell her friend about the Habitat program and that she was going to make a contribution of $5,000.  Without hesitation, her friend matched the gift.

We are blessed to have "YOU" as a friend.  As the need in the Quad Cities continues to grow, we could use your help.  Tell your Habitat story to your friends, family, co-workers and others.  You can help build a home and a future for a family.

Quad City Area Realtors Association Raise $10,000 for Habitat!

"First place winner Lucky Lang allows group to retain $2,500 prize"

Imagine winning $2,500 by being the best poker player in

a tournament and then giving up your right to the winnings. Sound crazy? How about big hearted instead!

That is what happened at the Association's annual Texas Hold 'Em Poker fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity on March 2nd.

Lucky Lang, a long time Habitat for Humanity Committee person and member of the Association, won the March 2nd tournament and allowed the Association to retain the first prize monies. "This will decrease our event expenses by $2500 and allow us to pass more onto Habitat," said Shane Johnson, QCARA CEO. "Lucky's gesture shows how strongly REALTORS® feel about Habitat for Humanity and its wonderful goals of helping people own

their own homes."

The New Warehouse and Offices are Coming Along!

We are getting closer to reaching our goal of $760,000.  Thank you to all of the volunteers, donors, businesses, and foundations who have come together to help build a new home for Habitat.

Our new warehouse will save approximately $4,000 to $6,000 per house built!  The offices will give us the opportunity to bring in AmeriCorps volunteers and additional interns allowing us to expand our capacity.

We are working to be able to move into the building late spring.  They are finishing up the electrical and will soon be drywalling.  With additional funding, we will be able to complete the project soon!

Can you help us with a donation?
