Building From Sufficiency - Checking in on our experiment

What does it mean to build a business inside of exquisite sufficiency? For the last two and a half years, Seven Stones has stayed committed to this context as it grows its revenue, staff and community. We have learned many things along the way - namely that there is much paradox in this work of being committed to sufficiency while living in a world contextualized by scarcity. Holding this tension over time is our greatest feat, and the vulnerability it generates, we have learned, is the access to the wisdom to move us forward. In this way, we have learned not to step over scarcity, and to use our collective 50 years of training to skillfully transform those pain points into opportunities. We have learned to follow the money, the lines of exchange and how we make meaning of our value structures, from how we pay ourselves to how we charge clients. Getting rigorous with currency and exchange through our payment models, referral program and our newly initiated corporate tithing program, we have re-discovered that our core business model is relational and less and less transactional. This, and the context of the business being an experiment, allows us to be more creative and innovative - to actually invent our future and contribute to the larger conversation among our alliances.
