Greetings!

Many of our customers do not realize that we offer printing services for discount cards and in-store gift cards.  You can contact us for more information on these services!
Discount Cards
Discount cards can be a powerful promotional tool for your store, bringing customers to you again and again.  The following steps allow you to start using this tool:
  1. Go into View -> Promotions and create a promotion (or more than one if desired).  Designate the promotion as "Discount card only" when you create it.
  2. Go into Inventory Maintenance and create a discount card item.  Create a new item, assign it an item number and name as desired.  Check off "This item is a discount card", then click on "Select promotions" button which will become enabled.  This brings you to a screen where you can select promotions to associate with the discount card.  When you're done, exit back into inventory maintenance and save your item.
  3. Select a customer for an invoice and scan or enter the item number for the discount card.  You will need to assign a unique number to the discount card, which should be preprinted or written onto the card.  This will be used to identify the card when it's used in the future.  Complete the sale.
  4. Start another invoice.  On the invoice screen, select "Scan discount card" and scan or enter the card number (this is the unique card number printed or written on the card, NOT the item id you gave it for sale purposes).  This should automatically bring up the customer who purchased the card.  Scan in some items that should trigger a promotion which you associated with that card.  The software will automatically apply the promotion pricing to items on that invoice.

In-Store Gift Cards
Are you offering gift cards in your store?  If not, you should know that they are built in to recent versions of Extreme Point of Sale, Inc. software!  We can print up actual cards for you to sell, or you can use printed 'gift receipts' that have the card number on them.  In order to sell a gift card, simply follow these steps:

1.  Enter gc as the item number.

2.  If it is a gift card, select gift card and scan the number from the barcode printed on the card.  If it is a receipt, select gift receipt and either make up your own number or push autogenerate to have the system do it for you.

3.  Enter the amount and hit okay.  Finish the transaction as normal and your customer will have a card.

In order to accept a gift card, simply hit gift at the tender screen and scan or type the card number.  The amount will default to the lesser of either the cost of the transaction or the balance of the card, though you may edit this.

To find out even more about gift cards, consult the most recent version of the manual, available from the web page by filling out a free trial form and then following the manual link provided at the trial page.
Mercury Gift Cards

To use Mercury gift cards, you'll need to have ExtremePOS Payment installed and activated with a Mercury Payment Systems account.  The advantage of these cards over the traditional cards described above is that they may be used in stores other than where they were sold.

You may sell them similarly to the above instructions, if they are enabled; simply select the Mercury option, and following completing the transaction the system will prompt you to activate the card.

Retail Sales Up in March

Retail sales were up in March over last year and over February.  Non-automotive sales were up nearly 1% in spite of rising gas prices and a late Easter, accourding to the US Commerce departments.  You may see more detail here.

For customers on an update plan, the most recent version of the software is 2.09.0009.

We will be closed Monday, May 30th in honor of Memorial Day.
