Content@Ingram Interface
Coming soon is integration to Ingram/Spring Arbor Books' web service database, Content@Ingram, as well as enhancements to the existing electronic ordering feature for Ingram Books.
Content@Ingram contains over seven million titles, from bibles and books to music and gifts, with a particular focus on book products. This database, in many ways, is an improved version of the Companion database we have supported for many years. It is a subscription service, with a couple levels of subscription you may get. At the top level, you may see reviews and in many cases even images of the items you're searching for, and be able to bring in those images for use with the ExtremePOS Customer Display program.
In addition to an enhanced number of titles and new returned data, the web service offers the ability to search by a widened number of fields, ranging from basics like author and title all the way up to more obscure things such as age and grade levels, binding types, and dewey decimal number.
For the Ingram Books electronic ordering, three enhancements are planned, adding new features offered by Ingram to save time on purchase ordering. Coming soon are direct to home ordering and stickering. Direct to home ordering allows you to drop-ship items directly to customers from within the POS system. Stickering will allow you to receive titles from Ingram with a pricing sticker directly on them, saving you valuable time and allowing you to focus more on your customer.
A little further down the road is license plate receiving. This feature allows you to receive all items within a box of a purchase order simply by scanning a barcode on the box, saving a great deal of time.
At the recent Christian Products Expo, we showed a development version of this feature at Ingram's booth, and additionally there are two preview tutorial videos, available at here and here along with a great number of our tutorial videos.

Versions of Windows
We've had a few questions recently regarding what version of Windows should be run for ExtremePOS. We recommend either XP Pro or Windows 7, and most users purchasing a full package from us will receive Windows 7 currently. (Exceptions exist; many all-in-one units still run on XP.)
However, there is no current need to upgrade from XP on an existing system from the point of view of our software, so unless you have other reasons for upgrade or are purchasing a new computer, what you are using now is likely fine.
ExtremePOS also runs on Vista, and can be run on either 32 bit or 64 bit versions of Vista or 7. Due to occasional issues getting device drivers for some hardware with the 64 bit version, if you purchase from us you'll receive the 32 bit version.
In the event you decide you want to upgrade your computer, you should make certain that the new one has printer ports to match the printers that you have already, and contact support to arrange moving your license. This may require a support call if you are unsupported. Purchase of a PC from ExtremePOS includes the time to install the software before it's sent.

Serial Numbers
A common support question lately has been asking about tracking serial numbers for big ticket and warrantied items. This feature is quite simple to enable. In inventory maintenance on each item you want to track serial numbers for, check the track serial numbers box under the optional tab. (Remember to update each item you change!)
Once that's set, anytime you sell or take in trade an item where serial numbers are supposed to be tracked you will be prompted for the serial number. You may then type it in, or scan it if the serial number is barcoded, and the system will save that information. You may then look at serial number reports (under reports -> inventory reports -> serial number sales) or use the track serial number tool under tools -> track serial numbers to view information on a specific serial number or on general serial number sales.

Using the Cipherlab 8000 with Purchase Orders
In 2.9.6, the ability to utilize the Cipherlab 8000 for Purchase Orders and Vendor Returns has been added.
There are three places it can be used - to add items to a purchase order, to receive items on a purchase order, and to add items to a vendor return.
Before using it in any of these ways, you'll need to scan each of the items you want to use into the device, which can be done while the main POS system is in use.
To use it to add items to a purchase order, you must first create the purchase order as normal. (From actions on the main invoice screen, go to purchase orders). Next to the box where you can scan item numbers, there is an import button that can be hit. This will allow you to bring in items from the mobile scanner; it functions identically to the physical inventory usage of the device.
When receiving a purchase order, the button to use is "receive from device". Items must already be on the purchase order to receive them in this manner.
For creating a vendor return, similarly to purchase orders go through the standard initial creation of a return to the point where you would add items. After that, the button you are looking for is Import from Device.
