"I realized I was among friends."
A letter from a survivor to
the attendees of DAP's
Annual Luncheon 2007
I would like to thank you for coming to the Domestic Abuse Project's Transforming Families luncheon on Tuesday, October 16, 2007. I am a survivor of violent crimes. I went through so many battles for so many years I still can't believe I'm alive sometimes. Unfortunately I still have moments of living in fear, my abuser just got out of prison, and this time he is not on "papers". So without programs like DAP, I don't know where I'd be. They have been a great resource for me in so many ways for several years.
At the Earle Brown Heritage Center that Tuesday I walked in with my head down, feeling lost, under dressed and a victim. Yet as the program moved on I felt touched, motivated, empowered, unique and inspired. I realized I was among friends. It truly was a gift and it made me cry. No one judged me. And I left with my head turned up towards heaven! I was not able to donate. But it is people like you who are able to help people like me, as a client I personally thank you. And "we" appreciate your donations and continued support and friendship. The more we have the more we can do and the more we can promote and prevent. So thank you so much.
Susan

DAP's Pilot Program for Veterans Starting Fall 2012
The hero. After multiple deployments this bright, strong man knew he was on the edge. He'd seen too much. He witnessed atrocities and was unable to report their effects on him because doing so would compromise the trust and confidence in his abilities. He asked to be taken off the front lines, but he was experienced and senior. They gave him medals of valor and directed him to lead more men into combat. After destroying his first marriage he found himself in a Twin Cities suburb with a pistol in each hand squared off against eight law enforcement officers. Somehow they figured out a resolution without shooting. But where does he go from there? Read more...

Unleashing Innovation
MAP For Nonprofits and Idealware have completed an exciting research project to pave the way for nonprofits to use technology for service innovation in a manner that advances their missions.
DAP is proud to have been chosen as one of the project's case studies highlighting what we call the PO Portal, a secure online point of access for Probation Officers to access specific information on their clients. Read about DAP on pages 8-9. Click to view the MAP For Nonprofits and Idealware report.

Focus on Children's Needs, Not Parental Wants
DAP's position on HF322 - the MN Presumptive Joint Physical Custody bill that was vetoed this past spring by Governor Mark Dayton.
Earlier this year the MN Legislature was presented with HF322, a bill that in simplest terms, would have given children a baseline minimum of 35% time (increased from 25%) sharing with both parents in the event of divorce. Along with the MN Coalition for Battered Women, partner domestic abuse agencies and family court advocates - DAP was against the passing of HF322. Click to learn why...
