Wellness Tips for the Holiday Season
| From joyous gatherings with family and friends to spending cozy snow days in the comfort of your own home, the holiday season is a wondrous time of year. But for some, this season may also bring with it feelings of overwhelming stress and anxiety, which may lead to sadness and depression and unhealthy behavior, such as overeating. But rest assured, there are several steps you can take to avoid the holiday blues and truly enjoy this special time of year.
Watch what you eat! With super dinner spreads and yummy desserts, it's often challenging to turn away from the plethora of holiday treats at your fingertips this time of year. It's o.k. to sample these sweets here and there but try not to fill up on them altogether. Eat healthy meals and snacks before you dine so you are not famished when it's time to celebrate at the holiday table. Also, try to maintain your fitness regime, whether you exercise at home or at a fitness center. The holiday season is also a great time to team up with a wellness professional, such as a nutritionist or holistic health counselor to help you keep your weight on track during this challenging time.
Pace yourself! From shopping for gifts to preparing to host a family gathering, there's just so much to do... it can get quite overwhelming. Take some advice from Santa! "Make a list and check it twice!" Try not to save everything for last minute. And if you are pressed for time, online shopping is a fun and convenient way to shop for gifts while simultaneously managing your daily responsibilities.
Embrace the magic of the season! This time of year may add much to your "to-do list" but remember why you are taking on these additional responsibilities altogether. The joy of giving, receiving and sharing with friends and family is not something to take lightly. Try to enjoy the spirit and magic of the season. Take some time with your loved ones to create new memories that can be treasured for a lifetime. Take some time to pamper yourself, too, perhaps with a massage or rejuvenating skin therapy treatment.
The Northport Wellness Center professionals are fully committed to supporting all of your wellness goals and help make this holiday season a spectacular one for all to enjoy. Should you have any questions along your path to optimal health, please do not hesitate to ask.
