2009 VV rooster Abma Reaching out to Mother Nature

A few days ago, I got upset about something and made a few calls to girlfriends just to vent. One friend suggested I "not buy into the anger thing" and take my daughter and myself to a wonderful refuge known as "Abma's Farm & Market in Wyckoff, NJ. It's a family owned and operated petting zoo with exotic chickens (no, you can't pet them!), a miniature donkey, miniature horse, pigs, goats, sheep, cows, and baby chicks. They also have a marvelous market loaded with fresh goodies to please any palate! Yes, you can even buy special food to offer certain animals.

Well, I went with my daughter and her friend and we all had a sublime time, and it didn't cost a dime, just time! I was transported into a lovely, time noticing just how incredibly long a cow's tongue really is, tugging my sleeve away from a goat, petting the horse with the long hair. My anger? Where did it go? It was gone just at the thought of seeing the animals before we even left our house!

Quotation of the Month

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

Animal of the Month

The following passages are from Ted Andrews' Animal-Speak: The spiritual & magical powers of creatures great & small:

Rekindle the fires of wonder toward the animal world and all of nature.

Many ancient myths and stories speak of a magical time and place in which there were no boundaries between humans and animals. Animals and humans spoke. Wild and tame had no meaning. And always the divine revealed itself in Nature.

Regarding Insects (see photo of Walking Stick below): As with all totems, study each one individually. Its behaviors, characteristics, and such will have significance. What activity is it involved in as you discover it? What time of year does it show up? What has been going on in your own life within the previous 72 hours that might be connected in some way to the energies of the insect?

2009 9 DA Horse Abma

Horse: Keynote: Travel, power and freedom; cycle of power: year-round. Riding horse has been .likened to flying by more than one poet through the ages. They signify the wind and even the foam of the sea. Horses were given powers of divination. More than one legend speaks of the clairvoyance of horses and their ability to recognize those involved in magic. They are symbols that can express the magical side of humans.
