COMPETITION RULES

1.  WHAT KIND OF PHOTOS CAN BE SUBMITTED?
The Young Photographers Competition 2010 is open to all subject matter and all processes will be accepted --black & white, color, digital or print submission.

2.  WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE COMPETITION?
The Young Photographers Competition 2010 is open to any student currently enrolled in elementary, middle or high school in DC, Maryland or Virginia. 

3.  WHEN SHOULD I SUBMIT MY PHOTO(S)?
You may submit your photo(s) anytime between March 22 - April 11, 2010

4.  IN WHAT FORMAT SHOULD I SUBMIT MY PHOTO?
               -  PRINTS:  a. If you are dropping off or mailing a print photo, you must
                                        submit an 8" x 10" print, as well as your entry form & fees
                                    b. Click Here For Entry Form
                   -  DIGITAL SUBMISSION:  If you are submitting your photo via email, please
                                    follow these guidelines: 
                                    a.Your image should be sized @ 72 dpi, 1000 pixels on longest side,
                                         no bigger than 1 mb in size.
                                    b. Submit your photo as a jpg image via email to Rebecca Drobis at
                                         rebecca@rebeccadrobis.com  
                                    c. Include in your email students's name, age, grade, school and
                                        title of photograph
                                    d. Even if you submit your photo(s) electronically, you must still
                                        mail your entry form and entry fee to:

5.  HOW & WHERE SHOULD I SUBMIT MY PHOTOS?  YOU HAVE 3 OPTIONS!

     OPTION 1:
                 Bring it to Photoworks @ Glen Echo Park
                     Make an 8 x 10" print of your photo(s) and hand deliver the photo,
                     entry form and entry fee to the Glen Echo Park offices:

                          Glen Echo Park Office Hours: Monday - Saturday, 10 AM - 6:00 PM

6.  WHAT IS THE ENTRY FEE FOR THE COMPETITION?
The entry fee is $25.00 for up to three (3) images from the same photographer.  If a student wishes to submit between 4-6 images, then the entry fee is $50.00.  The limit for the number of photos that one student may submit is six (6) photographs.  Please make checks payable to Photoworks.
 
7.  HOW WILL MY PHOTOS BE JUDGED?
Acclaimed documentary photographer, author. and Washington Post columnist Frank Van Riper is the juror for the Young Photographers Competition 2010.

8.  WHEN WILL I KNOW THAT MY PHOTO IS ACCEPTED?
Photoworks will notify you on or before April 15, 2010 via email if your photograph has been
chosen to be included in the exhibit.

9.  WHAT ELSE DO I HAVE TO DO?
If your photo is accepted into the juried exhibit, you must mat your photo(s) using a white mat, and frame it in a solid black frame.  You must return the framed print to Photoworks (1st Floor Arcade Building) during one of the following times:
     Saturday, April 17, 1:00 - 4:00 PM
     Sunday, April 18, 1:00 - 8:00 PM
     Monday, April 19, 1:00 - 8:00 PM
All other work not selected for the exhibit, should be picked up at Photoworks during the hours listed above.

10. WHAT ARE THE EXHIBIT DATES & GALLERY HOURS?
The Young Photographers Competition 2010 Exhibit runs from Sunday, April 25 - Sunday May 16, 2010.  Gallery hours are Saturdays, 1-4 PM, Sundays/Mondays, 1-8 PM, or by appointment, 301-229-4313.

11. WHEN IS THE AWARDS CEREMONY & RECEPTION?
The Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held at Photoworks Gallery, on Friday, April 30th from 6:30 - 8:00 PM.
