A Report from the Friends
Children at BML
The Friends of Braswell Memorial Library's membership drive for 2008 is over, and we now have a membership of 220 adults.  Our first general membership meeting was held on September 27. Fire Chief Keith Davis presented an extremely informational slide show on Hurricane Floyd's impact on eastern North Carolina.

Our second Friends meeting was held on November 29 at the Imperial Centre, and featured a seasonal classical guitar concert by Miguel Pico, a musician whose past performances at the Library were very well-received.  As always, he astounded and delighted the audience with his musical ability.

The next big Friends event will be the major fund-raiser for the group for the year:  Champagne and Chocolates.  Held at the Library this year, the event will feature a smorgasbord of chocolate delights, other delectable nibbles, and of course lots and lots of bubbly! More information will be out after the first of the year.

Let's Grow a Reader
Braswell Memorial Library releases 2006-2007 Annual Report:
Let's Grow a Reader!

On Tuesday, December 4, at 5:30 pm, Braswell Memorial Library will host a reception at which the annual report for 2006-2007 will be introduced and handed out.

Marion Weathers, whose artwork is featured, will be present to sign copies of the booklet.  Weathers created gorgeous illustrations --featuring Acorn Children -- that tell the story of the Library's success in serving the children of our community.  Susan Reese, former Assistant Director of the library, wrote the copy. Children and adults will enjoy the beautiful color and whimsical details in "Let's Grow a Reader."

The annual report is dedicated to the memory of Mary Lewis Foote, Braswell Memorial Library Trustee, accomplished writer, and gifted story teller. Mary Lewis served on the Library Board of Trustees for years, and was a big part of making the dream of a new library building for the Rocky Mount area become reality. We are thankful for all that she did for us, and the dedication of this beautiful piece is but a token of our deep love and respect for her memory.
