Hi Friends,

I'd like to ask you all to think about Pete Dingeman over the next couple of weeks as you go out to do your training runs.  If you're so inclined, say a prayer too. You can send him a note at hawkeyenf@gmail.com.

Pete is an NF hero of epic proportions and he always has been a proud member of this team.  I've asked some friends of Pete to offer some thoughts about him. As you will read below, they testify to Pete's character and endurance.

I think the thing that stands out about Pete is his never ending upbeat attitude, his courage to face adversity, and his contagious optimism.   I'd certainly like to be more like him when I grow up.

Pete, we all wish you and your family peace, love and comfort in this most challenging endurance event your in right now.   Our hearts are always with you.

THOUGHTS ON PETE

Our family first met Pete at the Phoenix Rock 'n' Roll marathon.  A group of us went to dinner and we sat with Pete and his wife.  His smile, charm, and positive spirit had an immediate and lasting impression on our family, including our daughters who were 6 and 7 years old at the time.  His drive and determination, despite all the obstacles NF has thrown in his path, have inspired us.  Knowing Pete has made us better people.  Thanks Pete.  God bless.

Love,
John & Florence McCarthy

Pete has injected a sense of fun and enthusiasm into Chapter and Affiliate Council for many years.  His boundless energy, intense optimism, offbeat humor and warm personality have helped foster strong bonds among CTF volunteers all across the country.  We all love Pete and want him to know we are thinking of him!

Pete Dingeman, embodies the word "Hero." A true hero is someone who leads by example, who inspires, and who influences those around him to achieve what they never thought possible. Pete IS all of these things and more. Although I haven't yet met Pete in person, he is someone I have admired and looked to for inspiration simply from his influence on those around me. A true Hero in my book.

Pete was always upbeat, always asked me how Meadow was doing even when things were not always going well with him, he always had a smile to share and a kind word, he is truly an inspiration to this team and to those who suffer with NF. He is a good friend and great teammate. I feel honored to have him in my life!

After I gave a talk in Michigan to the Chapter there two years ago this fall, Pete sent me a plant as a thank you, a winter flowering plant which I love and which my husband and I call "Pete's plant." The first year Pete's plant bloomed beautifully. Last year, about this time, we were faced with the news of Pete's malignancy; Pete's plant was green, but soon enough, just like Pete, the plant came back and bloomed heartier than ever. So far this year the plant is green but I am convinced we'll see a burst of blooms soon and when we do, as always, Pete will be in our thoughts.
