TEAM BUZZ
"The NF Endurance Team can offer hope to families who might feel hopeless (especially on the initial diagnosis).  I also believe that the NFET is a tool that can make us feel that we CAN do something to help find the cure!"

NF HERO: Abby Owen
Abby Owen & Josh Thieriot

Abby Owen is pictured here with San Fran TC Josh Thieriot. The 7-year-old loves animals, both real and stuffed, and she is currently playing softball.

Her parents, Sean and Rachel Owen, formed Abby's Army in 2008 before the Portland Marathon. Their goal was to raise money for the Children's Tumor Foundation and spread awareness about neurofibromatosis as Abby has NF1. And they are still making that goal happen. There is an Abby's Army San Francisco team if you would like to join.

From the early morning smells of sourdough bread baking to the sun setting over the bay...it's no wonder why Tony Bennett sang that it's easy to leave your heart in San Francisco...

From the Team Captain

Folks,

As most of you know, I have run a couple marathons to benefit the Children's Tumor Foundation and research for Neurofibromatosis (NF).  Well, now you too can run for a reason other than when being chased.  CTF is coming to San Francisco and you can register and show your support by running the San Francisco marathon or half marathon with me and the CTF Endurance Team on July 26, 2009.

I plan on running the half marathon and will be wearing my CTF singlet (aka running jersey) with pride.  Please join me on the 26th to help raise awareness for CTF and help find a cure for NF.  What more could you ask for, having fun and being healthy all in the greatest city in the world! Register today and start running tomorrow!

Registering is an easy 3 step process:

1.      Register at www.ctf.org/endurance
2.      Register at www.runsfm.com
3.      Send me an e-mail letting me know you have registered.

Do not hesitate to call with questions and feel free to invite anyone you know who would enjoy going for a run.  You can also learn more at www.ctf.org/endurance.

With so many events to choose from there is something for everyone.
  • Full marathon - a loop course and a Boston Marathon qualifying race.

  • Progressive marathon- This is an event where your miles before the big day count toward your total. You run or walk 23.1 miles before Race Day. There is a Progress Marathon Tracking Sheet to keep up with your mileage. This should be turned in after you complete the 5K race in order to be eligible for a Progressive Marathon medal.
Course Maps: To view each of the race routes please click here.
Weather: After having spent a summer in San Fran Mark Twain wrote that the the coldest winter he ever saw was the summer he spent in San Francisco. That might be exaggerating a bit but the weather can be prone to varying conditions. According to weatherchannel.com, the July average high is around 68°F and the low is 53°F.
