MEET CARTER RICHARDSON
|

|
Carter Richardson's MRI revealed a brain tumor. At the age of 15 months Carter was diagnosed with NF. Carter is three years old now and attends preschool for visually impaired children. He receives physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. Every 12 weeks he receives MRI's to monitor the tumors. "My husband and I are members of the NF Marathon Team...we would be honored if you would run for Carter. Like many other children, he is a bright, loving and very spirited little boy," said Shawna Richardson, Carter's mother. "I dream about the day when the cure for NF is found -- for Carter and all the others."

A NOTE FROM THE TEAM CAPTAIN
|
Hello Teammates,
I hope that this letter finds you happy,
healthy and gearing up for the big race. With schools getting back into session,
we are reminded that January will arrive before we know it.
There are lots of folks who desire to run in
the Disney World Marathon but have not yet signed up. Once they go to Disney's Web site and see
that it's almost full, there will be many who wish that they had signed up sooner.
Maybe it is a
good thing that the marathon will be filled up soon as that is how I got
involved with CTF. You see, a client of
mine challenged me to run the Disney Half Marathon with her in 2005. I was to train her and get her ready for the
race when she thought of the wonderful idea that I should run with her. Why
not? We decided to make it fun. I made costumes. She was Tinkerbell and I
became Pocahontas for the day. We had such a blast.
The time came
to register for the 2006 run and we vowed to do it again -- together and in costume. This year she became Cinderella and I donned
a homemade mid-drift, sheer Jasmine costume. It was great fun except that the
temperature at the starting line was in the 30s. Yikes.
The time came
again to register for the 2007 event and somehow I just couldn't quite bring
myself to get excited. Who could I
be? What was the purpose? Have you ever tried to run 13.1 miles in
costume? The thrill was gone and I felt
like we had 'been there, done that.' After she had bothered me enough about it,
I went to the Disney Web site to register and found that the registration was closed.
Whew. What a relief! I thought that I was out of the woods when something
caught my eye. There was a charity that still had slots for the half marathon:
the Children's Tumor Foundation. Upon
reading about CTF and the heroes that are involved, my mother's heart melted
and I knew that I had found a purpose for running this year. No longer would I
be running in costume. Instead, I would swap costumes for a bright yellow
singlet! Never again would I run Disney
for myself, my own PR or just for fun, but for and with the NF Endurance Team.
This will be my third year at Disney with
the team and I am so excited. The more I got involved, the more I began to care
about CTF. The more incredible stories I
read, the more I wanted to help. It was the Joe Domenech's, Carter Richardson's,
Noah Tyrbron's, the families who support their children through their struggle
with NF, the siblings who write songs about their siblings with NF, the Steve
Kendra's who run for their children with NF, the Bob Skold's, Amber Duby's and
the Frank Giancarli's who have NF and are running for the cause that have
motivated me. They are the ones that I
am giving my time and energy for. They
are the ones who encourage and inspire me to keep going when I am tired of
training, writing, or being on the ball all of the time.
How thankful I am that Disney's registration
was "closed" for runners in 2006. How
blessed I am to be a part of the team.
How I hope that you, too, will feel the blessing, get involved and pass
on the inspiration that comes with getting to know the amazing people who are a
part of the Children's Tumor Foundation!
Together, we can help find the cure for
NF. One step at a time. One dollar at a time. Changing one life at a time until the cure is
found - then MANY lives will be changed!

| Remembering Joseph Domenech
|
When asked "Why do you think you have NF?" Joseph Domenech replied, "Because I can handle it." Domenech lost his fight with NF this past January, but his family is rallying to raise money and awareness to help find a cure so that no one has to handle NF. Domenech's parents, Tony and Lynn, formed the Big Joe Team, a combination of family members and friends that knew, loved and respected Joe. Their team goal is $11,500.
