Welcome to the 35th issue of the BetterHealthGuy.com Newsletter!
Since my last newsletter, my focus has been on completing GcMAF therapy, an injectable macrophage activating substance, in an attempt to make my immune system more self-competent. I'm just about done with that and discuss it in more detail below. It's been quite the ride!
I've attended several conferences recently and have made many of the notes available on the site. I also wrote an exciting article on PEMF therapy with Dr. Garry Gordon.
You can follow BetterHealthGuy on Facebook or Twitter for ongoing updates.

Physician's Round Table
Sue Vogan hosted the 2012 Physician's Round Table (PRT) in Tampa, Florida on January 26-28, 2012. It was an absolutely fabulous event. Sue impressed me with her ability to bring together some of the leading doctors in the field of chronic Lyme disease and chronic illness. I absolutely plan to attend in 2013. To read more about what I learned at this event, visit my conference summary here.

GcMAF
Since last September, I've been using GcMAF via injection in order to activate macrophages and lower my level of nagalase.
It has been the most difficult treatment I have done in 15 years since I first became ill. After a few weeks, the inflammation was so intense that I could not easily move my head from side to side without significant discomfort.
It appears that GcMAF therapy may be more difficult for people that have Lyme in that they may have a higher propensity towards the therapy resulting in inflammation or what is termed IRIS (Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome).
Fortunately, I'm just about done with GcMAF therapy, and I'm actually glad that I persisted and now have a nagalase level that is in the normal range. Not only is elevated nagalase an indicator of an immune system that is not working properly, but it can also increase one's chances of cancer over a lifetime.
I can't say yet that I've seen any significant positive results, but I am optimistic that I will see some changes once I have completely stopped the injections and the inflammation reduces. One of my naturopathic doctors that does muscle testing recently indicated that no infections were found which was the first time that has ever happened and a potentially hopeful sign.
I've summarized everything I've learned thus far about GcMAF here and documented my own journey with it in my GcMAF Log.
Definitely an interesting option to consider, but not one to jump into without a good doctor and lots of knowledge.
Note: GcMAF may not directly impact Lyme itself but can help with other factors that many with Lyme also struggle with, such as viruses, in an effort to further unburden the immune system.

BioResource 2012 Conference
In late January 2012, BioResource held a superb conference with Byron White, Dr. Ann Corson, and Dr. Wayne Anderson. The event was "Integrating the Byron White Formulas with Antibiotics, German Biological Medicine, and Detoxification Remedies for Tick-borne Disease Treatment". It was excellent! My notes can be found here.
The very next day, LymeDisease.org held their conference with Dr. Ann Corson and Dr. Christine Green. Details from that event can be found here.

Methylation

I recently listened to a great radio show on Underground Wellness on the topic of methylation.
Methylation is an important key to detoxification.
The show was an interview with Dr. Tim Jackson and was very enlightening.

PEMF Therapy
I had the great pleasure of working on the article "The Missing Link to Optimal Health: Recharge Your Life with Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy" with Dr. Garry Gordon MD. Dr. Gordon has been one of my mentors, and I have previously written articles with him on the FIGHT program. PEMF is an amazing technology that brings many benefits to one's healing journey. To learn more about PEMF therapy, take a look at the article found here. |
Those Pesky Emotions!!
Very early on, I had the fortune to learn about the impact of emotional conflicts and emotional trauma on health from my primary mentor, Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt. It has been an area that I have explored for several years now. I believe that emotional factors contribute to chronic disease in many cases, and often these factors must be explored to attain and retain lasting recovery.
Most recently, I've been doing additional work in this arena with Amy Scher. Amy has put together an excellent system for dealing with emotional factors using a combination of energy therapy techniques including EFT, Emotion Code, and several other systems to create her own unique way of dealing with emotions that may be holding us back.
Amy's tag line is "Identify. Release. Move On. Emotional healing, simplified." Amy doesn't believe in dredging up the past and reliving painful events, but rather releasing their negative energies from the body in order to attain a new level of health.
To learn more about Amy's work, visit her on her web site.

Biomedical Tips and Tricks
In February, Dr. Amy Derksen gave an out-of-the-park lecture called "Biomedical Tips and Tricks" which I found to be a superb collection of information from one of the best doctors I have worked with.
It is a not-to-be-missed presentation which is available here. Enjoy!

Get The Latest!
Over time, I have been doing fewer and fewer newsletters. This is largely the result of the popularity of blogging and other more real-time means of communicating like Facebook and Twitter.
These may entirely replace the newsletter at some point in the future.
Thus, if you are interested in continuing to hear my experience with Lyme and improving health, please consider following me on Facebook or Twitter.
