Welcome to the 34th Issue of the BetterHealthGuy.com Newsletter! It has been almost six months since the last newsletter, and I am amazed how fast 2011 has gone.
Happy Thanksgiving! On this Thanksgiving, I give thanks for the progress I've had, and I express gratitude for the additional progress I anticipate will follow.
Since the last newsletter, my focus has been on two major therapies, namely Regenerative Cryotherapy and GcMAF. I will discuss each of these further below.
I remain optimistic. Research seems to be happening at an increasing rate, and I think that big things are happening that will benefit all of us. I'm looking forward to 2012 and what it has to offer.
You can follow BetterHealthGuy on Facebook or Twitter for ongoing updates. Here's to Your Health!

Regenerative Cryotherapy
In July when I met with one of my doctors, my tonsils were once again coming up as an issue that needed to be addressed. They had come up in the past, but there was always something else more important to deal with then. Now, it was time to address the tonsil issue. We decided that removing the tonsils was not the direction to move in, but rather that I should pursue Regenerative Cryotherapy in Germany with Dr. Sergei Dorochov.
At my first appointment, it was determined that I would need three sessions in order to fully address the tonsil issue. My first trip for tonsil cryotherapy was in August and is detailed here. The second trip was this month, and the final trip will be in early 2012.
Thus far, I've felt as though doing the therapy has been a good decision and am looking forward to continued improvement as a result of it.
For those of you dealing with tonsil-related issues, regenerative cryotherapy may be worth consideration.

GcMAF
I first learned about a new therapy called GcMAF about a year ago. At the time, it didn't seem like the right next step. However, over time, I learned more about it and continued to follow the dialog with interest.
In September, I started GcMAF therapy and plan to continue until my nagalase levels normalize. Generally, that is 4-6 months.
The therapy has not been easy. In fact, it has been more difficult than I ever anticipated. After the first several injections, I began to have systemic inflammation unlike anything I have had for several years, and it has not yet fully resolved. My current belief is that this is ultimately a sign that the treatment is proving beneficial, but nonetheless, it has not been fun and has required some anti-inflammatory interventions.
I think that GcMAF is something that may hold great promise, but I also think it should be done only with careful consideration of the benefits and potential risks. I would also suggest only doing GcMAF with a doctor that has experience using it.
I would welcome hearing from people that have had their nagalase testing done or are already on GcMAF to hear what your experience has been.
I've summarized everything I've learned thus far about GcMAF here and documented my own journey with it in my GcMAF Log here.

Biotoxin Illness Conference 2011
In October 2011, I attended a great event in Northern California that was hosted by Gordon Medical Associates. Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker and Dr. Neil Nathan were the two main speakers. It was a great event.
Unfortunately, I think that many of us who have chronic health challenges overlook the impact that mold may play in our condition.
I highly recommend looking at your HLA-susceptibility and doing the Mycometrics ERMI to evaluate your environment for mold. Air testing is unreliable according to many experts, and the ERMI test may shed new light on the factors involved in our illnesses. It did for me personally, and I continue to do it annually.
Don't miss the extensive collection of information now available at SurvivingMold.com. A summary of this event can be found here. |
Dental Health
Dental health is a major part of what must be addressed in order for us to get well, in my opinion.
While flossing daily is a must, there are several other things that I do on a regular basis to address dental health and reduce my overall body burden of infection and toxicity in this arena.

Borrelia Culture Test
Many of us are familiar with the challenges of Lyme disease testing. The majority of the tests available are based on antibody response. Many of the sickest patients cannot produce antibodies due to their immune suppression. As a result, false negative tests often occur. In late 2011, a Borrelia culture test was made available which cultures the actual organism. This is a major breakthrough in commercially-available testing and may change the entire landscape of chronic Lyme disease. More information is available in my recent blog post here. |
THRiiiVE.com CCSVI Summit
In September 2011, THRiiiVE.com held a summit on the topic of CCSVI. CCSVI is an issue believed to be a problem in as many as 100% of people with chronic Lyme disease.
The event was attended by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, Dr. Lee Cowden, Dr. Garry Gordon, Dr. Joe Mercola, Dr. Joseph Hewitt, Dr. Mark Haacke, Dr. Jeff Wulfman, Clint Ober, Michael Payne, and many others.
A summary of this exciting event can be found here.
THRiiiVE.com is a phenomenal information source that I highly recommend. Take a look!

Beyond Lyme
One of my primary mentors throughout this journey has been Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt MD, PhD. "A Deep Look Beyond Lyme" was one of his recent events in which I learned a tremendous amount of new information.
My summary of the event can be found here.
In February 2012, Dr. Klinghardt is hosting a major event in NYC. I am looking forward to attending. Additional information is available here. |
Treatment Protocol
For my foundational protocol, I continue to work with Susan McCamish CTN and the herbal blends from Beyond Balance.
I discussed these in a blog post earlier this year, and continue to very pleased. My overall program including a PDF of my supplement regime can be found here. |
My Lyme Guide

My Lyme Guide is an excellent collection of resources put together by Marjorie MacArthur Veiga and Dr. Sarah Flecther.
They have developed a manual which contains "tools to provide organization, medical information and emotional support for patients and caregivers".
More information about the guide is available here. |
Nature's Dirty Needle
Mara Williams, a Nurse Practitioner at Gordon Medical Associates, released her new book on chronic Lyme disease called "Nature's Dirty Needle". To learn more about the book, click here. |
