It's been an exciting few months as I continue looking for information and health-improvement options that may benefit us all on our journey toward Better Health.  I hope you will find the information in this edition to be helpful to you in your own personal journey.

Much of the information contained in this edition comes from recent blogs that I've written and posted to my site over the past couple of months.  If you find this information of interest and would like to get it on a more timely basis, you can find the blog here.

ILADS 2010 Annual Conference

I recently had the opportunity to attend the ILADS 2010 Annual event in New Jersey a couple of weeks ago and was really uplifted to see how many people were in attendance.

Almost 400 people in person and over 1,000 on the live webcast.  Now, that's impressive.  There was a spirit of collaboration and an evident desire by those present to find answers for those struggling with less than optimal health.

It feels as though things are really beginning to move forward in many areas of research and I am hopeful that we will all benefit as a result in the not too distant future.

Though I could not possibly begin to have touched on all of the exciting information shared, I did recently blog about a few of the exciting things that were shared at the event.  You can find out more here.

I highly recommend getting the conference slides available from ILADS and the DVD/CDs available from ZenWorks Productions

McCamish Protocol

I've been on the McCamish Protocol (named after naturopath Susan McCamish) for over a year now with continued forward progress.

I've been blessed over the years to have been cared for by a number of healers and mentors that have guided my overall path.  That said, my progress has continued since Healthy Directionsstarting the McCamish Protocol in October 2009.

I currently get my protocol reevaluated about every six weeks and make adjustments as necessary.

I recently wrote about both the McCamish Protocol and the exciting herbal blends from Healthy Directions in a blog post you can find here
My Current Protocol

DewormerAt this point, my antimicrobial protocol consists of an Herbal Dewormer, Healthy Directions Immune Restore, and probiotics.

I'm on a handful of detoxification support products.  I'm also on adrenal support, thyroid support, melatonin for sleep, EFAs, a good multivitamin and mineral supplement, and D3.

The antimicrobial and detox support agents generally change more regularly based on the energetic testing that I have done about every six weeks.  The other foundational items mentioned above remain pretty consistent.

My overall program is becoming smaller over time.  It actually fits on one page for the first time in years. I'm probably at about 90% most days and functioning well.

More details on my current treatment protocol can be found here.

New Testing Options for TBIs

As part of the ILADS 2010 event, I was interested in several new testing options that are emerging.  One of the difficulties in the realm of Lyme disease is the absence of a diagnostic test that is both highly sensitive and highly specific.

Fortunately, new options are emerging.  I am particularly excited about a couple of them.

IGeneX now has a Bartonella FISH test which may be a significant advance over the previously available antibody tests.  The FISH test is an antigen test and thus far, the couple of practitioners I have spoken with that are using the test are finding it to be very helpful.

Next is a newer lab called Spiro Stat.  I first learned of this lab in April where Dr. Lee Cowden noted that it was the only lab he would use for Lyme-related testing.  I just recently had blood drawn for the Spiro Stat panels and will blog about the results when I receive them.

At this point in my journey I am hoping that they don't find anything, but given that we know that these organisms do persist, I won't be terribly surprised if they do.

To learn more about some of these emerging options, visit my recent blog on the topic.  I also blogged recently on Spiro Stat specifically and that can be found here.

Buhner Protocol Options
Green Dragon Botanicals

I've been a fan of the work of Stephen Buhner for years now.  A recent article that I wrote with Buhner is available here.

I've been on the lookout for ways to incorporate portions of the Buhner protocol in a single product.  A few good options have emerged.  These are:
  • Green Dragon Botanicals LB-Core
  • BioPure Quintessence
  • "Lyme Tea"
To learn more about these options, you can read my recent blog entry here.
Tick Repellent Options

Buzz Away ExtremeRecently, I spent a nice long weekend in Tahoe where ticks are known to be plentiful.  At the urging of a friend, I used a product called Buzz Away Extreme which seemed to work quite well.

While there are many options, I prefer to use a repellent that doesn't contain a number of toxic chemicals.  Thus, I looked around for a couple of options and blogged about them a couple of months ago.

I was later contacted by a friend that had read a review of repellents in Consumer Reports from earlier this year.  I also got some feedback from a few of you and made some updates to the original post.

If you'd like to read my comments on tick repellents, please take a look here.

Accidental Cure

Accidental Cure
I just finished reading a very interesting book called "Accidental Cure".

The main focus of the book is on parasites and how they cause a wide variety of health problems and how they are often underneath many of the world's modern maladies.

More information on the book can be found here.

From Roadblocks to Recovery - LIA Conference Articles

So much information was shared at the last LIA conference that it took two full articles to share it all.

Both Part 1 and Part 2 of the "LIA Conference Unites Practitioners and Patients and Offers Hope" are available now.

Part 1 can be found here.

Part 2 can be found here.

Enjoy!  I did!  And don't forget to support the LIA Foundation.

An Alphabet of Good Health

Alphabet of Good Health

Recently, I listened to another Podcast on One Radio Network where Dr. Martha Grout and Mary Budinger talked about their new book "An Alphabet of Good Health in a sick world".

So many of the things they discussed resonated with me that I went and ordered the book.

It's next on my list of things to start reading and I am very much looking forward to it.

More information is available on their web site here.
