Issue #21 Winter 2008
2008 is well underway and the journey continues.  I remain optimistic and feel that I am on a good path towards continued recovery.

My current treatment protocol has recently been updated on my site to include a number of changes.  These include both anti-microbial and detoxification IV therapies, the incorporation of MMS, and the first steps into looking at the impact of biofilms in chronic illness.

I invite you to take a look at My Treatment and to ask any questions or send comments.  I continue to learn so much from each person that I interact with and I thank you.

Though the journey is not an easy one, we are not alone.

If you know of others that may be interested in my quarterly newsletters, please feel free to forward this to a friend.

Don't Miss "The Lyme Disease Solution"
Lyme Disease SolutionDr. Kenneth B. Singleton Authors New Book on Lyme Disease

I first mentioned this book in my last newsletter and now the book is available.

I read the book in one day and found it to be full of powerful information on how to treat Lyme disease.  I believe that this book is the single most comprehensive resource available on Lyme disease today.

I highly recommend the book for anyone dealing with chronic Lyme disease.

If you order the book through Dr. Singleton's web site, a portion of the profits go directly to ILADS and LDA.

More information:

The Lyme Disease Solution is an exciting new book from Kenneth B. Singleton, MD, MPH, recognized national Lyme expert, LLMD, and Lyme survivor.  At 500 pages, it is the most comprehensive book on the market today written by an LLMD.

Topics include:
  • History, biology, prevention and controversy surrounding Lyme
  • Signs and symptoms of Lyme and the major co-infections
  • Diagnostic testing for Lyme and co-infections
  • Lyme disease and the impact on the immune system, including strategies for strengthening and regulating the immune system
  • The Lyme Inflammation Diet, the most complete nutritional approach to Lyme-induced chronic inflammation
  • Treatment principles for Lyme and other tick-borne diseases including discussions of antibiotics, herbs, nutrients, and other novel-therapies that have been found effective
  • Thorough discussion of conventional and alternative treatments for specific Lyme-related issues such as pain, inflammation, energy depletion, endocrine issues, gastrointestinal problems, liver issues, anxiety, depression, neurological problems, detoxification (including heavy metals) and sleep problems
  • Methods and techniques for dealing with psycho-spiritual-emotional issues related to chronic diseases such as Lyme disease

Dr. Garry Gordon on Attacking Lyme Disease
Garry GordonChronic Lyme Disease: Battle Requires Attack on Multiple Fronts

Dr. Garry Gordon is an international expert on the impact of heavy metal toxicity on health.  In my recent article, Dr. Gordon talks about the need to incorporate heavy metal detoxification and other modalities into a Lyme disease treatment program in order to optimize outcome.

You can read the article here.
Dr. Lee Cowden on Expanding Lyme Disease Treatment Focus
Dr. Lee Cowden ArticleExpanded Treatment Focus Markedly Improves Lyme Disease Patient Outcomes

I recently had the opportunity to interview Dr. Lee Cowden on his approach to treating chronic Lyme disease.

Dr. Cowden clearly points out that an expanded treatment focus and a focus on detoxification are key elements of a successful treatment program.

The article also discusses a new product from NutraMedix called Enula which may be helpful for treating Babesia, parasites, and micro-filarial worms.  It is one of the several changes I have made recently to my treatment program.

You can read the article here. Enjoy...
Klinghardt Conference
Dietrich KlinghardtWhat A Weekend!

Dr. Klinghardt's events are always like going to Disneyland for me.  I look forward to them with great excitement and a knowledge that I will learn so much.  The "2008 Healing the Brain" conference last month was no exception.

From how to treat various infections to minimizing inflammation to color therapy to lab testing for environmental toxins, and much more, every session provided me with something new.  I was especially impressed by some of the new energy tools from BioTools for Wellness.

Conference presentations should be available soon at http://www.klinghardt.org.  DVDs will also be available through the academy.
MMS - What's The Buzz All About?
Sodium Chlorite as a Powerful Anti-microbial Agent

MMS, also known as Sodium Chlorite, appears to be gaining interest within the Lyme community.  Though MMS has been available for years, it has only recently seemed to get attention from those of us attempting to recover from chronic Lyme disease.

Though I have to admit I had some initial hesitation about using the product as I do not have a strong understanding of the chemistry behind it, I watched for several months as others incorporated MMS into their protocols.

Positive reports started to come in and over time, more and more people seemed to be having good experiences with the product.

I am not suggesting that anyone jump right in and add MMS to their protocol.  What I am suggesting is that you read about it, do your research, and then discuss the possibility of incorporating MMS with your doctor.

I don't believe that it is right for everyone, but I do think that it is a strong anti-microbial and warrants a look.

It appears that MMS may be effective for Babesia, Bartonella, and Lyme as well as many other pathogens.  I do not believe that it is a cure for Lyme disease as I don't think it can get into all of the hiding places in the body, but I have observed several people that felt they had notable symptomatic improvement with its use.

My personal approach to using MMS is listed in My Treatment.  However, it has taken me time to work up to my current dose. For some people, even one drop of MMS may be too much.

I cannot suggest strongly enough that you do your own research into the use of MMS and then talk with your doctor about whether or not this may be an option that could be helpful for you.

I have compiled a list of MMS links that can be found here.
LIA Foundation Conference
LIA FoundationWhat A Lineup!

LIA Foundation has planned an exciting West Coast conference June 26-29, 2008.

Speakers include: Stephen Buhner, Richard Horowitz, MD, Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, Garry Gordon, MD, and many others.

Though the conference focus is on autism, it is my opinion that this is a conference not to be missed.  There is so much overlap between the two conditions and in many cases, Lyme disease may be a component of autistic-spectrum disorders.

LIA Foundation has done some great work and I am looking forward to this event.

I applaud the work that Open Eye Pictures has done in putting this project together.  I think that it will be a powerful tool in bringing awareness to the masses.
