Church members are too passive, Peace Conference leader says
A United Methodist elder and president of Common Cause, the Rev. Bob Edgar lifted up Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesus Christ as role models for his 300-member audience at the fourth annual Lake Junaluska Peace Conference.
"How sad it is now that our churches are so passive, so quiet," Edgar said in Stuart Auditorium on Nov. 15. "You guys are genetically nice."
"Sometimes you have to stand up when people tell you to sit down, and you have to speak out when people tell you to be silent."

Safe Sanctuaries policies
"The Penn State tragedy seems to get worse and worse. We ask ourselves, 'How could this happen?'" says Laura Lambert, Holston's associate director of connectional ministries for youth and young adults.
All Holston churches are required to have Safe Sanctuaries policies in place to help prevent child abuse. The policies should be reviewed and perhaps revised annually.
