Greetings!
Welcome to the Spring edition of the new Animal Paradise Newsletter. Happy Mother's Day to all of you that have fur, feathered and other kinds of kids. How lucky and blessed we are to have them in our lives.
I am happy to be able to share with you four wonderful articles about animal communication and animal Reiki. I am sure that you will enjoy them as much as I have. A special thank you to all of the contributors.
Things are very busy this spring here in Animal Paradise. My Reiki teacher, Frans Stiene of the International House of Reiki in Sydney, Australia was here for one week, teaching advanced Reiki courses, doing private healing sessions, private tutoring and several Reiki talks and book signings in the Washington, DC area. My friend Deborah Harrigan and I were privileged to host all of his events. Many of us had life changing experiences taking us deeper in our Reiki self practices as well as our teaching and working with clients. Frans will be returning to our area Spring 2010 and will be in NYC this September. Please see below for more information.
In addition you will find information about up coming workshops and events as well as news about SARA (Shelter Animal Reiki Association) in this edition. Please sign up for the SARA newsletter. The first edition will be coming out in the next week or two. SARA will also be opening its membership soon. I will keep you updated to the latest.

An Angel Called Latishia
by Greta Procious One day back in 2005, I was called from a frantic friend in Kentucky that her cat turned up missing in the middle of the night while she was away and had a caretaker looking after her animals that night. Latishia the cat just left the house while the other cats stayed behind. |
Reiki and Herding Cats

My first Reiki feline client was Buster, a medium-sized, black and white domestic shorthair. Buster had a mild asthmatic condition and several benign abdominal tumors. His human wanted to avoid surgery for the tumors if at all possible and was looking for a noninvasive way to control them. Therefore, she was considering Reiki treatment for him.

Frescoe

It had been a particularly stressful week. Normal work stress plus the added bonus of a stomped toe to make winter horse care especially enjoyable. After tending to the eight horses, I was puttering around the barn sweeping and tidying up in my self-absorbed state when I looked up to see my horse Frescoe staring intently at me.

Jeb (Lessons from an elder)

I turned off the main road onto the long dirt, tree lined drive that led to TREES (Traveller's Rest Equine Elders Sanctuary). It was a rainy spring morning. I arrived a bit early, wanting to have some time with the owner; Chris before the Reiki level one students arrived for their second day of class. We would be finishing up our work with human Reiki and spend most of the day working with the animals. I drove through the gate and got out of my car to close it behind me and noticed people over in the pasture on the left of the drive. My heart briefly came up into my throat. This was Jeb's area. A few days before, Jeb had been taken to the vet and the thought was that it could be his "time". Over 40 year of age, Jeb is the most senior member of TREES. I didn't know that horses could live that long.

Shelter Animal Reiki Association

Shelter Animal Reiki Association
SARA (Shelter Animal Reiki Association) is a new organization. SARA's goal is to bring Reiki into all shelters and rescues in an ethical way and to document the effects of Reiki on individual animals as well as shelter and rescue statistics as a whole.
I am happy to announce that TREES (Traveller's Rest Equine Elders Sanctuary) in Spotsylvania, VA and HSFC (the Humane Society of Fairfax County) in Fairfax County, VA have become founding SARA shelters. I will be teaching the staff and volunteers of HSFC Reiki level one this coming weekend. Shortly after I will be holding SARA orientation classes as both locations for Reiki practitioners that would like to become part of the SARA program and offer Reiki to the wonderful residents of both organizations. Please contact if you are interested in joining us.

The International House of Reiki returns to the US in September and spring 2010.
Frans Stiene will be teaching Shinpiden in NYC in September 25th-27th and returning to the DC area next spring. Shinpiden means Mystery Teachings. If you are Reiki level two or higher you will not want to miss this opportunity to deepen your connection with Reiki by learning traditional Japanese Reiki. I took the course two years ago and it not only changed my life, but it changed the way that I teach and practice Reiki.
