Detroit Declaration
Declare Detroit! Join the Movement
The Detroit Declaration is an organizing document for people who love Detroit, who sense that there is a growing tide of consensus about what our city must do differently to thrive, and who are willing to invest time and energy into the political process to see that consensus emerge on a transformative scale. This document is the starting point for an attempt to organize a constituency that we believe already exists. It simply lacks a name, a list, and a single purpose. Since the launch of the Detroit Declaration a few weeks ago, the response has been phenomenal. Signatures: 1,774

Detroit's Midtown district is a Boom Town
Louis Agular | The Detroit News
Six neighborhoods that collectively were christened "Midtown" in 2000 have steadily improved and, in some pockets, boomed -- even as other areas of the city slip further into decay. An estimated $1.8 billion in public and private investment have poured into the area that includes the infamous Cass Corridor, as well as Wayne State University and Brush Park.
With the investment came more residents. The 2000 Census counted 17,000 people in the Midtown area, north of downtown and south of New Center. And while no one has kept count of how many moved out during the decade, an estimated 3,200 new residents moved in. Click here to read the entire article.

Book Cadillac Renovation Wins Preservation Award
When it opened in 1924, Detroit's Renaissance Revival-style Book Cadillac Hotel - with its massive limestone, brick and terra cotta façade and distinctive copper roof - was, at 33 stories, the tallest hotel in the world. The Book brothers, J.B., Herbert and Frank, envisioned their hotel on Washington Blvd. as the centerpiece of the most opulent retail destination in the Midwest. An instant sensation and a dramatic addition to the Detroit skyline, the Book Cadillac Hotel was home to nationally recognized nightclubs, restaurants and ballrooms, all decorated in a lavish Venetian style, the most richly appointed interiors imaginable.
