Many Good Things Happening
In the midst of a challenging economy, 2009 has brought many blessings at New Beginnings. Several men have graduated from the program and moved on to steady employment. A home for Women with Children will open in the coming weeks, as well as the 2econd Life Resale Shop and the Job Training Center; which will serve the entire South Lake community. We have also been the recipients of numerous grants.
With the employment rate in Lake County growing to be one of the highest in the State, the number of people losing their homes due to economic crisis is rapidly increasing. Lake County schools reported recently that 609 students are now without a home. Consequently, after months of planning, we are preparing to open the Mulberry Inn Women with Children's Home in the historical district of Downtown Clermont. After months of negotiation, and much prayer, we have acquired the former Mulberry Inn. This majestic home was built in 1890 and served as a bed and breakfast during the past 15 years. We are fielding calls daily from churches, schools, counselors and social agencies seeking assistance.
Various grants have been received from the Bank of America, the Wachovia Foundation, and the Community Foundation of South Lake County. Our successes have been reported on local news channels WFTV-9, Central Florida News-13, Z-Max Radio, as well in local newspapers The South Lake Press and Orlando Sentinel. You can view these stories and articles by visiting our website at New Beginnings Lake
To date, over 100 volunteers and companies have donated time and materials to rehabilitate the Mulberry Inn Women with Children's Home. We are currently seeking additional volunteers, as well as donations of the items detailed below. For additional information about how you can help us continue our mission to Transform Lives, please email Melinda Gill, Director of Community Outreach.

Meet the Job Training Center Director
Robert R. Singletary, "Mr. Bob", is a native Floridian, graduating from both high school and college in Florida. Mr. Bob served for eight years in the Volusia and Orange Counties Public School Systems working with autistic children. He has worked as a Community Employment Coordinator for Mental Health Services of Orange County, as well Coordinator of Anthony House's Assisted Living Community in Zellwood, FL.
Mr. Bob brings over 30 years of Human Services experience to the New Beginnings JTC. After a battle with cancer in 2002, Mr. Bob's passion and purpose to help others realize that "it is not just about the money, or lack there of, it is about changing the way you think" has made him even more committed to teach those in need how they too can achieve their very own "New Beginning."

Who is New Beginnings?
We are a 501©3 non profit faith based organization committed to helping people that have lost their homes recover from their situation and transition back into the work force. We provide a structured environment that includes a 9 month training program. We are assisted by a 12 member Board made up of local Professional Counselors, Pastors, and Business Owners. Our services include case management, job training, professional counseling, life skills training, job placement, housing, food and clothing.
Who we serve
Some people mistakenly think that homelessness is a lifestyle choice. The reality is that homelessness is primarily the result of unforeseen challenges. New Beginnings is serving those who want to recover and transition back into the work force.
Who we serve New Beginnings takes in men, women, and children in need. They are carefully screened through police and medical records. Relatively healthy adults who have adequate criminal backgrounds are acceptable. Most importantly, they must agree to our admissions policy which includes no alcohol, drugs, or smoking at any time after moving in, and no sexual reading or activity. Phone calls and watching TV are closely monitored by the house manager. The house manager at New Beginnings monitors all activities and any medicines, and insures that all established policies are adhered to. |
