March Madness

Now I know what it means when someone uses the term March Madness and I'm not talking about a sale at the mall. Winter continues to drag on into March but we get short glimpses of spring, just to turn around and get cold and snow. It will all break shortly and all of our plans for spring will come flooding into action. Distribution of guides, Lit Swap, spring Media FAM, and so much more. The "madness" is, that it all happens at once after the long anticipation and preparation for spring.

I'm guessing we will have about three days of spring and then it will get hot and summer will be upon us. With our visitor request numbers up and web visits up we are expecting to see good numbers of visitors this travel season.

We are planning a spring Media Familiarization Tour the first week of May and we need our members help to make it a success. Read the details below.

Make sure you get your events on our events calendar so visitors don't miss it.

VISITOR GUIDE DISTRIBUTION DAY Parker Transfer, Sioux Falls - Wednesday, March 23. We'll be there 8am to 1pm. You may also pick up guides at the Vermillion Chamber, Madison Chamber, Corn Palace in Mitchell and at the SSDTA Office in Yankton. Come and get regional guides and SD Vacation Guide for the upcoming travel season.

Be sure to read the entire newsletter for some interesting news, upcoming meetings and an opportunity to serve your region.

                                                       - Jacquie, Executive Director
Southeast Tourism hosting Media FAM - May 1-4
We will be inviting media representatives from outside of South Dakota to come and tour the region with us, May 1-4, just before "See South Dakota Week." We will also invite local media to come along and See Southeast South Dakota from a visitors perspective.
The FAM will circle the region and we will need lots of help from our members to make this familiarization tour a success. We need meals and lodging for the group when they come to your town. We want to show them what wonderful things we have to offer in this diverse region.
The tour will begin with several stops in Sioux Falls, then travel to Garretson, Dell Rapids, Madison, Freeman, Mitchell, Springfield, Yankton, and Vermillion. They will also see and hear about many other sites and attractions along the way.
Invitations will go out shortly. Let us know if you would like to help with this Media FAM, with rooms, meals, snacks or logo items for bags to each participant.
The invitation will include a link to a "preview" of the FAM tour with photos and highlights of the southeast region. We will include links to lodging and meal partners on the media page.
We have asked South Dakota Tourism to partner with us and they have agreed to assist.
Call or email if you would like to participate. 888-353-7382 or jacquie.sesd@iw.net
  Email Marketing to Visitors

Our monthly newsletter to 5000+ visitors is growing. The newsletter includes vacation packages and features member businesses.

If you want your business included in the visitor email newsletter, consider creating a packaged vacation or weekend getaway. Each offering must include a lodging property with an attraction or event. Packages are listed free on our website and we choose from those packages what will be featured and a link to all of the packages.   Submit your package here

ADAMS HOMESTEAD & NATURE PRESERVE - Spanning 1,500 acres along the Missouri River, this area was donated to the people of South Dakota in 1984 by Mary and Maud Adams, granddaughters of original homesteader Stephen Searl Adams. They envisioned the area as a place where people, particularly youth, could enjoy the land and learn more about the natural world surroundingADAMS HOMESTEAD them. Mary and Maud wanted to give others a "place for inner renewal."
