Energy tune-up for small manufacturers

ICNC is presenting a series of workshops for small businesses interested in saving money on energy costs. These workshops are practical and the companies who come will learn where they could be wasting money on electricity and gas and how they can start saving.
CB2 headquarters coming to Ashland Avenue
Northbrook-based housewares retailer Crate & Barrel is 240 Ashlandmoving the administrative headquarters and catalogue photography operations of its CB2 division to the Kinzie Corridor. The company will lease most of the old Cook Brother's building at 240 N. Ashland, which recently underwent an extensive renovation. The Chicago Community Development Commission voted on Tuesday, October 14 to contribute $3.4 million in Kinzie TIF funds to the project. Crate & Barrel estimates 40 jobs will move from Northbrook to the new location.
UIC business students available for projects
Local businesses can affordably contract UIC graduate and undergraduate business student teams for projects from marketing and branding to exporting and financial analysis. Cost is from $500 to $1,500 based on company revenues. Applications are due December 3rd. More information here.
Andre's Imaging recognized for 9/11 memorial
Andr�s Imaging and Graphics, a long-time ICNC Andre'smember, was recognized by the Chicago Fire Department's Engine Company 57 for their work framing and mounting a "Flag of Heroes" that memorializes the 343 emergency responders why died in the line of duty in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Chicago Journal backs more SBIF funding for Kinzie businesses

The Chicago Journal published an October 15 editorial backing ICNC's call for more TIF funding for neighborhood small businesses. You can read it here. ICNC has long advocated that the successful SBIF grant program be expanded and that more money be made available for capital improvements to small businesses.

Get money back for training costs
ICNC has money available from the State Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to reimburse companies for up to 50% of what they spend on employee training. Read about the program here and call ICNC to get started. The paperwork is easy and most trainings (besides sales training) qualify.

Chicago Gear Purchased
Longtime ICNC member Chicago Gear - D.O. James Corporation has been purchased by Addison , Ill Overton Gear Corportation. According to the companies' announcement, the new company will be one of the largest full-service gear and gearbox suppliers in the world. Congratulations to Chicago Gear and Overton on the deal.
