Lake Street reconstruction underway

The Chicago Department of Transportation has begun reconstructing Lake Street between Damen and Western Avenues. The street will be lowered to provide minimum 14' clearance and new sidewalks, signals, and trees will be installed. Traffic is one-way eastbound until November of this year, with westbound traffic detoured to Washington Street. Depending on continued funding, reconstruction of Lake Street between Damen and Ashland is scheduled to begin in late 2009.

New Tax Incentives for Small Manufacturers

The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, contains two provisions that can be of immediate benefit to small
manufacturing companies:
    1. doubling the Section 179 small business expense tax deduction (from $125,000 to $250,000) and
     2. allowing a 50% "bonus" first-year depreciation for capital equipment purchased and placed in service during 2008.

SBIF Grants for another $2 Million to open soon
Qualifying companies in the Kinzie Industrial Corridor TIF district can apply for matching grants of up to $150,000 for capital improvements including new roofs, electrical upgrades, tuckpointing and parking lot paving and beautification.
