30 Day Challenge? Yeah, I did that! (And more...) |
There's nothing easy about the 30 or 60 Day Challenge. 30 hot and sweaty 90 minute classes in 30 days is tough (we don't call it a challenge for nothing!) At the end of it, though, you have to admit it; it is worth it.
Just ask any of these yogis who recently finished their challenges!
30 Day Idaliza Sosa Venkat Anand Katuri Damanyathi Wijesekeva Missy Korn Margarita Soloria Norman Veierstahler Pam Williams
60 Day Renee TImpone Leslie Anglero Damian Barrios Chuck Moore Darcy Moore Angela Fry Micol Neely Stan Jayne

Fantastic effort yogis!

Please Be On Time!
Be on time to class. We understand that sometimes extenuating circumstances will occasionally make you a few minutes late, but as a rule try to get here at least 5 to 10 minutes before the class starts. | Classes are busy and if there are more than 50 people in the class, we will not let you into the room late. You may enter the room a few minutes late if there is space and it is before second set of breathing. |
New Student Parking
| |
You have all seen the signs, "Reserved for New Students." We do our best to set these up before each class; sometimes we get busy and forget. Either way, the first three to four spots just to the right of the door are reserved for new students. If it is not your first or second class, please do not take one of these spots. Leave them for new students, who need to have examples in front of them and be within easy sight of the teacher.

Change your mind; Change your life
Newsletter | June 2011
|
Greetings! Why do you do yoga? Everyone seems to have a slightly different motivation behind dedicating so much time, energy and sweat to this practice. I have talked to many of you about your goals and the benefits you receive. People come to lose weight, gain flexibility, de-stress, de-tox, rehabilitate an injury, lower blood pressure, quit smoking or simply because their friends say they MUST try it. Never have I met anyone who does yoga to stay the same. We are all looking for a change.
Many changes occur in our lives over which we have little to no control. But those are not the only changes we experience. No matter what cynics who mutter, "people don't change," have to say, the truth is that people do change. We have the capacity to learn and to grow and to expand our horizons. So we come to yoga to change our bodies, to heal old injuries, to lead a life free from chronic pain. We find in yoga not only those physical changes but also mental and emotional changes. As you progress through your practice, you begin to let go of stress and worry; to focus and concentrate; to stay present; to have faith in your own abilities; to act instead of react. "I cannot" turns into "I can" and frustration turns into patience.
Outside in the 'real world' these changes manifest themselves as surely as the relief from pain and the increased strength and flexibility. Not only to you rise from sleep without the aches and pains but also with the knowledge that you can face the day with confidence and optimism. The most profound changes in life come when you change the way you think. Practice this every day in the yoga room; for 90 minutes cultivate your thoughts carefully. Smile when you feel like crying. Try harder when you feel like giving up. Have patience when you struggle. Make your most difficult posture your favorite. You will discover that you can change. And it starts with making up your mind to do so.

Just a Reminder....HYDRATE |
We covered it in detail last month, but hydration is so crucial that it deserves a reminder. Here in Arizona the summer is heating up and our bodies are losing more water to keep us cool throughout the day. Make sure you are drinking enough water and also replenishing your electrolytes. If you are feeling dizzy, nauseous or headachy then you might be dehydrated. Remember, plain ol' water is the best way to hydrate; sports drinks can help to give you a little boost and also replenish some electrolytes, but they should supplement, not replace, water.
Reverse Osmosis Water?
Sometimes sorting through health fads can be tricky thanks to clever advertising. This one is important to those of us who live in the desert and like to sweat (a lot). Reverse osmosis is a technique used to remove particulates from water. The result is better tasting water that has been stripped of its natural minerals. Trace minerals are essential to the functioning of the body and drinking reverse osmosis water can actually flush them out of your system. If you drink reverse osmosis water regularly, consider keeping your drinking water in a carafe with Himalayan rock salt. The large crystals will gradually dissolve, replacing the minerals.

Just for Fun...
After hiking 11 miles into the Grand Canyon, a side trip took Gabi and Tricia to Ribbon Falls. They could not resist the temptation to try a few yoga poses with such an awe-inspring backdrop.

"If you always think the way you have always thought, you will always do what you have always done. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got. And so, you see, if you want to change your life, all you have to do is change your mind."
When I went searching for this quote, I found several variations with different implications. This is the one I liked best. The very first step in achieving a goal and creating a change in your life is to believe that you have the power to make that change.
