Thanks to those who stood up and spoke out for the funding ban, there is good news to report.

On Tuesday, our funding ban prohibiting expansion at Piñon Canyon was restored by the full US House of Representatives. 

 

It wouldn't have happened without your strong voices demanding the funding ban be put back where it belongs in Military Construction Appropriations.

 

Together representative democracy worked.   Because so many spoke out, the basic constitutional principal of civilian control of the military was applied.

 

Now, as never before, to make sure the five-year-old funding ban doesn't get stolen again, we need United States Senator Mark Udall to make the funding ban policy.

Piñon Canyon military expansion makes no sense.

• Taxpayers already provide 35-million acres in the US for use by our military.   
• The Pentagon and its contractors are spending more than $764 billion in 2011 alone.
• Taxpayers can't afford it.  
• Generational ranchers and rural communities shouldn't be condemned by their own government.  
• The National Grasslands on the last intact native prairie need our protection, not impacts from war training.

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Secretary of Defense shall not carry out any construction or acquisition of real property at the Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site, Colorado; all other provisions of law enabling Piñon Canyon expansion are hereby nullified.
